G650GS. vs. DR/KLR?

Is the nice shiny BMW offering simply a richer man's DR/KLR? What does one REALLY get for the extra $$$?

Mostly Fuel injection and a 3 year warranty.

Personally, I think the Husky Terra measures up more favorably to the DR/KLR. All are great bikes in their own right.

The Bmw gets the best fuel mileage because of the FI. And compression.
And it has alot more wattage available if that is important.
Fit and finish is better.
Resale is better.
I think the seat height is shorter.
It has more horsepower.

It's heavier than the DR. It's smoother than the KLR. It's available with ABS. Stock for stock, it has more power than the Jap offerings and gets better MPG, but it's more complicated and doesn't fall over as well. It's more pavement-oriented than the Japs too. The aftermarket is not as good as the Jap offerings either.

The Husky Terra is also worth a look.

Are you sure it is smoother ??
In a couple of 2012 comparos I read this year in magazines the testers all said the Klr was smoother.
Probably due to the high compression of the beemer.

I took RonZZr's F650 for a spin and its way nicer than a klr. Power seemed more, front end=brakes suspension far better.

With that said I would get 2 used KLR's

What do you want to do with it? Mostly pavement? Go with the Beemer or Husky. Lots of off pavement and actual trail Dr650 or Klx250.
