Suggestions for 11 days UK trip
I am renting a 4 wheels and taking my family for a 11 days trip around UK.
We are leaving in 4 days and we have never been to UK before and would like to get some first hand suggestions from you guys to make our trip less touristy. We are leaving from London, Plymouth, Chelatenham, Liverpool, lake district, York, Cambridge and back to London. The hotels are all booked and it looks like GPS is going to take us on the highway the whole time which is fine since the rental car won't be too back road friendly anyway. Any suggestions for must see, best restaurant, afternoon tea or anything we should know amount those locations? Plymouth Liverpool Lake district York Cambridge Thank you for any suggestions up front |

Try Hardknot and Wrynose Passes in the Lake District.Great fun on a bike or in a car.Pub food is usually good and inexpensive everywhere.Keswick is a nice little town and there shouldn't be too many tourists this time of year.

As Wildman said ...
Nice part of the country but full of Scots. ![]() Get off the motorways. Places to visit: London to Plymouth: Stonehenge, New Forest, (Bucklers Hard, Beaulieu etc.), Lulworth Cove, Chesil Beach, Dartmoor Plymouth to Liverpool: Exmoor, Bath, Cotswolds, Ironbridge, Chester National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham is worth a few hours. Liverpool to Lake District: ![]() Take the A6 via Shap fell if going that far north. Lake District to York: Yorkshire Dales, Harrogate, North Yorks Moors Yes, try the village of Hawes and the Pennygarth cafe. Massive bike meet on a Saturday and Sunday although will be quiet at this time of year. Ribblehead viaduct is worth a photo. From one of our rides there this summer to Hawes. click for video. ![]() Aysgarth - Visit the falls. Where they filmed the Robin Hood film (the Kevin Costner version) York to Cambridge: ![]() Cambridge to London: RAF Duxford - yes Duxford is very cool. Have fun!

Humber Bridge and Whitby (and the scenery surrounding Whitby) in North Yorkshire are things you should see. Shame though you're not going further up north, as Scotland truly is a treasure.

Too many nice places, but not enough time. Traveling with two women, esp mom and sister, will only increase shopping time. Thank you for all the suggestions .. Packing and leaving tomorrow AM. |

Although I have been to many of the above mentioned sites in the UK, I would suggest Scotland and the Isle of Skye, truly the best part of the UK. IMO.
If you do not make that incredible part of the world, where you are planning on going is also Very Nice. Cotswolds are easy and very tourist centered. Stow 0n the Wold, Bourton, The Slaughters, Bibury, Chipping Camden, Broadway, etc, etc. |

Yorkshire Dales
Skipton - always worth dropping in between Lakes and Yorks - Medieval Castle at end of the high street etc, buy some copper dragon beer, rRed Lion at Burnsall typical old english pub. Loads of good trails but even a hire car won't go over some of these ! Agree Skye & Scotland good also but long drive +6hours from the lakes so you'll loose two days driving.
