Helmet noise and the best fairing.

Hi all, an uneducated question from an old airhead rider.....

I ride an old naked R80 but have been considering something newer and a little quicker. The main attribute I'm looking for is a VERY low turbulence fairing.... I've been becoming increasingly sensitive to the noise caused by wind buffet, even with air plugs (although they really help).

Could I ask those of you who have wide experience of faired machines what you think is the quietest with the least wind noise?

R1200GS ADVENTURE is the smoothest quietest bike I have ridden and that was with a standard screen & my old helmet. I ended up buying the R1200GS and have at times regretted not going to the GSA. Maybe next time!

Thanks Hendo, that's a surprise, I would have thought an RT would be the thing . The GS has a really small screen by comparison.

A lot of what you experience will depend on your size (height) of course, but my experience at 5' 8" on my GSA is like Hendo's. The first/only motorcycle with a fairing or windshield that was perfect for me noise- and buffeting-wise as delivered. Many threads around here though about taller (normal? ) riders with buffeting on a GSA with the stock windshield.

I have an 1100gs with the large AirFlow windscreen and an added Laminar Lip. It is like riding in a light breeze at 60 mph. No kidding sometimes I forget that the visor it up on my Shoei.

I know that this is ADVrider, but IMHO there isn't a GS (or GSA) out there that compares to an RT for quiet and smooth air-pocket for the rider

YMMV

Hey Sibbo

Check out this website.

http://www.aeroflowscreens.com/

I had their medium sized windshield and their mini fairing on my R1200GS and it was BY FAR the best Farkle I have ever had. It totally changed the airflow around the bike. I could now ride at any speed with my visor fully open and no longer needed earplugs at all.
It was great.
BTW...I am 5' 9" with a 30" leg and I had the seat in the lowest position. The Medium sized windshield was exactly right.

Regards
Bernd

This is all good cos I'm a true shortarse at 5'7" so I can stay low. It sounds as if it's time for a few test rides. Thanks fellas.
