380 Km

I tested my Portland to Mt Burr route today and it is a two day ride for sure. I left at 9-30 and got home at 5 -30. I cut the ride short at Mt Gambier.

I did some shopping fo yacht bits at Taylor Marine and then enjoyed a cleansing ale with The Cougar at the Comptom Country club.

I headed due South and skirted Pt. MacDonnell and headed back home via Nelson and the Glenelg river roads.
I called in at Ewans Ponds in case Amber was scuba diving there (nope).

So far the GPS mapping program worked OK. A couple of times I wanted to used gated road reserves, but I managed to find alternate routes on the GPS.

It was a fun way to ride. I might even have a crack at doing a RR.

Kangaroos and black wallabies all day! Snakes and Lizards! Dopey emus, one cow and two sheep. A miss is as good as a mile.

One off at Killara when I tried to avoid deep sand and th efront washed out.

had a go: could do better

I had a go at doing a ride report. I stuffed up my photos by holding my phone vertically for a few shots. I uploaded them to photbucket, but when I rotate them in photobucket and then transferred them to the RR, they did not rotate.

Oh smart ones; what is your wisdom?

I found a rotate control on the phone, but I am having touble uploading to PB at the moment to see if it worked.

No idea but I did see lots of spaces where photos should be....

fixed it

I had to redo the photos once I found out where the rotation and save commands were hidden. You must have checked it out while I was busy editing it Gags. I think it looks better now I have put the photos back.

I found that having the pink line as a guide enabled me to use alternate tracks and still keep going in the general direction that I intended, and a lot less doing circles trying to work out where to go.

I haven't used the pink line.....or off road mode on Zumo 550......as I haven't really got into the route planning side of things too much on it........will have to have more of a play when I get a new bike mount after I fried the original one when it had a small crack in it and some rain got in

Plenty of big KTM's go up there....might not be the best for the Ranges tracks but there are many wide open roads to get there and the big loop around to Arkaroola.

#1 Don't worry about the big KTMs up there. There was over 70 riders on the PAR for the TK ride in 2011 and I was on my DR, taking up as much of the track as I needed to in order to stay safe, when two Qld'ers on orange big bores cruised past, holding out an arm to protect me. I was quite dejected and when I got back to Blinman Kipo asked me what was wrong. I told him the story only find out that those same guys had blasted past Kipo and Slats (Mayor), and they both were virtually born on that track.

#2 Mate of mine is a pretty good rider and we took bikes up there in Sept '12. He'd just bought a WR250F and was giving it the berries around the PAR with some NSW blokes on 950's, 640's etc who we'd met at the pub the night before and invited to join us. My mate couldn't lose the KTM's and now wants one!!!

Bring whatever bikes you want, it'll be fine. Just stay away from any of DRZWalker's technical hill climbs, if you bring monsters!!!
