See actually, it's one long compound modifier: "Doctors'-kitchen-knives-ban call. But that's too fucked up even for the Brits. Your interpretation is much closer to what an average reader would think. And it's just silly.

In response to the increased violence in public places, I agree more guns IS the answer. But along with those new guns, must come training and education, and a greater respect for fellow man (and the heat he's packing )

Why stop with America? Politicians should be licenced, the number of licences should be reduced each election to a maximum of say 0.00001% of the population or 150 whichever is the less? Licences could be revoked by a court of Law?
A rule of thumb for politicians - the more you have, the more stupidity you get. And it is something like an exponential relationship? Certainly not linear. One of the reasons I'm against State Governments - eliminate them and you get rid of so many politicians!!!! |

I agree that a gun ban is not the answer. That would simply favor the bad guys, who don't care about laws. The problem is that it is just too easy for bad guys and unqualified good guys to get a gun in FL (and other states) today.
We require training and licensing for driving, practicing medicine, being an electrician, a plumber, etc... Why not for firearms? I think every citizen with a clean criminal and phychological record should be entitled to own a gun, as long as they have the proper training and licensing. This will help insure that less weapons end up in the hands of bad guys and kids, while not infringing on our right to bear arms . A determined criminal will always find a way to get a gun. However, more restrictive licensing will deter some of them, particularly the mentally disturbed ones. I doubt Adam Lansa would have had the ability or the means to purchase assault weapons on the black market. And if his mother had been properly trained, she would have kept her weapons in a safe. The gun show loophole really scares me. I've personally seen gun transactions occurr with absolutely no scrutiny. They buyer could have easily been a terrorist or mass murderer. We don't need a gun ban, but we do need more control. You wouldn't fly in a plane with an unlicensed pilot, would you?

you already have that. you must have a drivers license and background check. that is dangerous thinking sir - the next step is a national gun registry. what's next? oooh, they come to all registered gun owners to inform them that they must relinquish their guns or go to federal prison.
licensing doesn't work. how many people are on the roads today with fully legal drivers licenses that have absolutely NO business operating a machine? How many plumbers/electricians/contractors are shady sketchy shitty workers that cut corners and do poor work? I maintain that "The unfettered right to own and bear arms consecrates individual sovereignty and ordains the right of self-defense. The Second Amendment symbolizes and proclaims individuals’ right to defend themselves personally against any and all threatened deprivations of life, liberty, or property, including attempted deprivations by the government. The symbolism of a heavily armed citizenry says loudly and unequivocally to the government, 'Don’t Tread On Me.'" Quoted from this article (a good read )
