I was chatting with this dude from yhe US.
His wife left him and he has only 500 dollars US coming in each month His rent is 200 for a place on the beach And food and misc stuff takes the other 300 So for 500 dollars a month' you too can be a beach bum here in Belize For a thousand, you can probably be town mayor |

Your doing a great job documenting your travels. I'm learning a lot for future trips.
Thats just it, there are many neat places in the world that one can live very well and cheap. I have a friend in Thailand that lives like a king on $2000 US per month. Cost of living is 25-30% of the US. Just have to be creative and willing to take a small risk. And it does'nt have to be forever. I'll be curious to see what you think of Costa Rica for expat living. Take care! Steve

running on the light
I left Hopkins this morning for Placentia. My gas light was on. My trip computer said I could go another 32 milesi asked a taxi driver how far to Placentia. He said 32 miles.
My choice was to back track 5 miles or go for it the 32 miles. What would you do? Play it safe? Well, I went for it. Turns out it was 38 miles and the gas station was out of gas. Fortunately, there was another gas station in town on the docks. In Mexico, there are lots of gas stations. Here. Not so much. So, my new rule is get gas when I can. My second rule is - don't follow my rules and go for it. And have another rum punch on the beach. |

I did about 5000 miles thru mainland Mexico in the past 30 days.
I loved all of Mexico (except Mexico City). But Baja is still my favorite. It is the rouge state(s) in Mexico. The tours are sooooo much fun. I miss them I hope I can still do the tours when I get back from this trip |

finding places to stay or camp
A follow adv rider asked me how I find my places to camp
So far, I have never known where I was going to stay when I roll in to a place I have never been to before. Finding the right place sometimes takes an effort For example, here in Placentia Belize, I FIGURED I would find a place on the beach. I asked around and no one wanted me to camp on their beach Belize has been more difficult than Mexico It seems that the cabanas are so cheap that no one bothers to camp After asking around town, no one had a place for me to camp so I took matters in to my own hands. I went for a jog down the beach to work off all that rum punch. As I ran, I think I found the perfect place to camp. Its right on the beach, just out of town It is a vacant lot And the ground is hard all the way to the water so my bike shouldn't get stuck I am going to head out there soon As soon as I finish my rum punch yum |

Too Funny!
Dude That's Funny!
![]() I like your humor, and I agree with your statements about Baja. Nothing like going to the Mill or Momma Espinoza's for dinner then riding the next day with your buds. Baja Rocks! Quote:

Crossing the border in to Belize, the road conditions became much worse than Mexico. I got spoiled from the good Mexico roads.........that's right GOOD Mexican roads. The main roads in Belize (there are really just 2, one that goes north south and the other that heads from the Capital to Guatemala) are in pretty good shape. But all the others are crap. Expect dirt and potholes. Lots of potholes. And they say the rainy season is even worse
I crossed to rivers on this secondary road and instead of building a bridge, the had a ferry. And the ferry was a hand-crank type. And you were expected to help with cranking your way across. One crossing was about twice the length of the ferry. It was crazy that they just couldn't find the money to build a little bridge

Getting the ferry was a bit tricky. You have to drive over some boulders to get on the ferry. And then there is gap between the ferry and the shore you have to bump over. And then the planks on the ferry are not straight, there are gaps between the planks and some of the planks are even missing. I came really close to dropping my bike with a full tank of gas here
