From the looks of the mesh, it's way less than 50% open space, so putting it on the 3x3 opening might reduce it to more the equivalent of a 2x2, which is 4sq" vs 9sq"...not good at all. There is enough area when you've got it spread over the entire air filter that it's probably no worse than the air filter itself...not so with the 3x3 opening.

theres no way that filter would restrict the airflow by more than 10% over the 3x3. it certainly hasn't droped power and fuel econmiy is as good as ever adventure riding. IMHO

As I was using the DRZ for a commuter, it had luggage racks, tail rack, windshield, rotopax tank etc. After riding in the woods with my buddies and dropping it in the snow and mud six times I made some changes.
MT-21 tires, stripped off most of the excess junk. Ready to give it a try but we are knee deep in the white stuff and its still coming down.

My query was based on the impression that both the filter and 3x3 would be covered, if only the 3x3 or filter then may not be an issue but both has to have some effect

Does anyone have the bar end weight hardware that they don't want? I found the weight, but lost the screw and expander stuff in a steep hill get off.

I have an '01 E model(new to me).I put on the seat concepts cover as well as the rack they sell.As my bike has no sub frame,does anybody know how much my rack can carry?Thanks.

I prefiltered my atv airbox lid with a piece of old cut up air filter and hot glue. I didnt notice any jetting changes required. I will be doing the 3x3 on my DRZ airbox in the near future as well. It really lengthens the air filter life and service intervals.

When purchasing a kick start for an s model, do you have to buy the kit or can you just order e model parts?

In the 90's I had a DT200R that had been done up by a pro, it also had a make shift sponge foam pre filter over the opening cut in the air box, somehow I am going to rig one up for the DRZ. Looking at it yesterday I was thinking of bending up a bit of 6mm wire into a frame to hold my pool filter sock.

It might also have the added benefit of running a little quieter too.
