This is great! I'ts gotten that when I open a ride report and see another tall bike with rectangular panniers and knobby tires I just skip it. The road less traveled is always more interesting. So bring on the Harleys, Ninja 250s and other offbeat travel bikes.

I am looking forward to reading your RR. I have wanted to ride the Pampa and Patagonia for years so I will just read along for now.

Happy end of the world!

So I'm getting on a boat tomorrow for 10 days and won't be updating during that time. I'll try to find some time later today to actually get into the South America part of the trip, but here's something to whet your appetites

back to the past

I landed in Santiago on November 27th, so I'm a little behind on the story. I had about a week and a half before the bike would arrive so I busied myself with cervesas and completos. I met some great people, hiked up a glacier, took 3 days of intensive Spanish, and had some sort of viral chest infection. I met a brit named Mat who intended to buy a Honda 125 and ride it to Vancouver. After a drunken night of karaoke we vowed to ride out of Santiago together. Clearly I didn't think this through because as it turns out 1200 is a bigger number than 125.

Currently having trouble uploading photos via Flickr...
