Thanks for bumping this, I re-read everything.
We did the most unimaginative thing this year - throwing more manpower at the problem. Thankfully, Troy and Doyle stepped up and are willing to help out in the mod squad. The basic problem is still that this is all a volunteer operation, every one having jobs and families to take care of. The ADV team F5 experience will always be something completely different from a commercial, edited news organization. But thanks to Baldy, we also don't have to make our sponsors happy and we don't have to stop our broadcast to show Darts or Curling or Football (and yes, ad-supported forums do experience pressure to censor content that's not in line with the advertiser's "public image"). Moderating the Dakar mostly means sifting through the Firehose and the other threads like Pyn's and the media thread and trying to produce something useful in the Cliff Notes thread. In the last two years, the result was a bit of a hodgepodge of unrelated info. I hope that with more hands on deck, we can get a bit closer to the ideal of telling the day's story without the checkpoint-by-checkpoint numbers game that is a lot of fun during the stage but loses its relevance a few hours later for those who can't follow every minute. There's usually no need to censor/moderate much in the Firehose, apart from a reminder or two when the bashing gets too wild. And I'm not comfortable with removing people's post just because it's the 3rd time someone posted "Despres is at WP6!!!". When it happens to me, I usually delete my own post and we could remind people that doing this themselves would be the polite thing to do. |

We've come a long way from the 2006 thread's 420 posts and 30,748 views to the 2012 thread's 14,634 posts and 1,088,105 views so perhaps I'll add the friendly reminder for everyone to think about quality of posts rather than quantity of posts. After a certain point, it's near impossible for anyone to keep up with. 2012 - 14,634 Posts - 1,088,105 Views 2011 - 12,452 Posts - 867,072 Views 2010 - 7,138 Posts - 545,872 Views 2009 - 3,362 Posts - 316,096 Views 2008 - 714 Posts - 71,232 Views 2007 - 1327 Posts - 76,082 Views 2006 - 420 Posts - 30,748 Views

So Mister T, is the new mudderrator.
When i see a topics with so many, of these , that i have to guess is there something between the lines. Need to read twice, does he really mean it. Or must I skip that. What is important, what is not. Is the expression always used right? Could the mod give attention to that? ![]() Or is it, it is not my daily language. |

Round of applause for the new mods stepping up to moderate the madness and the mods who have been in the thick of it for years, and to Baldy & crew of course and the all the amazing contributors, trackers etc.

I'm Merican as the next and a fan of both JC and RG but Dakar is the showcase of international talent. For me, the triumphs and tribulations of the "lesser" competitors makes for a truly magical event.

So, what can we do better THIS year -- Dakar Coverage?
... we need one of THESE:
![]() http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=131 ticking away at the top of each page, so that the global entity that is the f5 consciousness are in synch and know what time the stages and rally is keeping... REGARDLESS of where in the worlds many time zones they live or what they are doing... In january there is only ONE time zone... the DAKAR ZONE. This should many of the numerous, "hey... what time are they starting... I thought they started at 06:00 pacific central... no was that 08:15 standard New York time... hey... what are you doing up at midnight in Mogadishu...? have they started yet?" type of posts. If f5mods flood or PackMule could give this their attention (or some other helpful mod soul)... I am still on my mod waterwings and don't want to f5¤ck something up! ![]() Troy Team f5ool.
