This 2013 f800gs is my first. But coming from a carbureted bike I defiantly found the throttle snatchy. As a matter a fact I was beginning to wonder if I'd ever get used to it but after 9,000 kilometers I don't even notice it anymore. Feels great now.

All my prior bikes were carb. models also ... I don't know if the throttle is less snatchy after 30K miles or if I am the one that is now broken in, but I don't really have much issue with it now, although when it was new it did annoy me quite a lot.................

I feel the same thing here. After buying it I was 300€ away of buying that power controler thingy. Now after 6 month and 15.000km I'm "broken in" and not noticing it anymore. But who knows, after having bought all the "important farkles" and discovering some new money in my bank account, maybe I'll buy that piece of geeky technology

Wow that's a great thing. Can't say I have ever discovered new money in my account.

I have a 2012 Trophy and before I ordered it I test rode a 2012 Triple Black—neither had a snatchy throttle that I've noticed, despite being such a torquey bike... previously I had a 2008 Honda Hornet which is an unfaired and slightly detuned version of the CBR600RR—a great bike but impossible to ride smoothly at low speeds... I'm thinking coming from this, the BMW felt much smoother, whereas maybe someone coming from a carburetted bike will perceive the BMW as much more responsive, and therefore snatchy? Either that or BMW made mods to the throttle/fuelling through the years...

I understand the 2013s have a different spec XFE to accommodate the optional ESA and ASC functionality so it's doubtful older models can be flashed.

On another note—has anyone noticed that the NA 2013s have longer front indicators than the EU versions? Any idea why? The pre-facelift F800GS appeared to use the same indicators worldwide...

2013 NA (Leslie—hope you don’t mind me nabbing part of one of your pics!)

2013 EU—the was the best pic I could find, even at this angle it's obvious how much shorter the indicator stalks are

That's our wonderful laws. A few years ago, in Canada anyway, the 12GS's had a recall because the front signals were something stupid like 2 mm too close together. BMW went overboard to the point you could barely get enough loose wire to stretch into the new stalks. Might be the US law and us Canucks just follow big brother.

Makes sense then if they are simply fulfilling market-specific regulations like the red/amber side reflectors the rest of the world misses out... I'm curious to see the NA versions of the optional LED indicators which are lower profile in the EU than the incandescent ones... if they're available in the NA market - BMW Canada seems to be 7 months behind schedule on updating the F800GS page on their website... shame on them!

Don't mind and I do not like hard BIG the signals are on our bikes to be honest. Canada laws but in time we will change them to a smaller LED....not a high priority now but in the future.

The manufacturers have to stick to the letter of the law but once it's in your garage... Sensible mods don't get a second glance 99.9% of the time. If you're riding like an idiot and get pulled over you might get the book thrown at you tho.

Most cops here have better things to do. (insert joke here)

yep I live with a cop we know they rather be doing other things than pulling over bikers because their signals are not legal.
