I had what I think was Ossa's equivalent, the SDR. Loved it. Might have been a wee bit later. Lots of talking about the Matador at the time. Very evocative. What was it about these Spanish enduros? Probably more about who we were back in those days.

Pursang's and Metralla's 1969 and on were 5 speed.

Here's a pic of me taken 1972 of my '70 Mk 4 boxtail short track/half miler (Preston Petty front fenders mounted on the rear lasted longer than the Spanish glass.

All the metrallas tend to be the most expensive buls. Over here, a perfect example like that can go for 7-8k. A rough one can be had for 3-4k. The only Bultaco more valuable is the Bandido...you won't find those outside of the states.

dude! I never owned one but kind of grew up with them as the first shop I had exposure too was Kaw/Bul circa 1971. One of my buddies got into them with a 73ish Matador then followed by 2 Frontera's. That 370 Frontera was a real bear. Another friend had an Alpina and while it wasn't the most powerful thing around in tight woods it was really nimble. Pursangs were cool. Those pickle chrome silencers were cool. They were even cooler when guys took them off.

In additon to my post #8 here the model 199b in racing outfit not quite ready only some small parts missing.

The bike can be set-up in two veions, stock like from the factory when made in August 1981 or in "trials competition" outfit. he colorscheme I like most, beside the enhancements this last model from Bultaco got like the modified frame geometry, the 6-speed gearbox and the engine enhancements.

In spring 2013 I hope to get it fired up again.

Between the standard and the modiefied set up there are the following changes:

- fork with different internal set up (springs, shims, ...), the lower stanchions are shaved too
to reduce weight, (upperstanchions alineg and with new hard chrome coated),
- rear shocks, special batch from Magical in Spain made in 2008 for Spanish Puma Bultacos,
- gas-tank custom made out of fiberglas, lighter and works with our ethanol gasoline too.
- air-box custom made out of fiberglas, lighter and slightly bigger volume,
- Dell'Orto carb,
- less flywheel mass, reduced the weight around 2 pounds, to get more live in the engine,
- clutch actuator with roller bearings, reducing the force you need pulling the lever a lot,
- fine balanced piston, con-rod, crankshaft assembly,
- aluminium handlebar,
- aluminium chain guard, (a shaved one from the 151 model),
- machined brake pad's, (brakes are a weak point),
- modified exhaust, mid- and rear section, shaving of another 1 and 1/2 pound with better
airflow without increasing noise, (better response of the engine, leaving the )

The parts used where beside all rubber-, spokes- brakepads, cables and bearing parts NOS which took much time finding.

BULTACO!!!! I love all motorcycles as they are all special in some way, but I kind of have a stronger attraction to the Spanish Breed. Here's some pix of Bul's I have.

These aren't mine, but it is me with the 370 Frontera that a buddy let me use for the Southern IL SMOG ride last year. Lot's of cool Spanish machines there, but mainly Bultaco's!

There are some great Buls here (even the furry one!) and I'm sure some great old memories.

Poking around the other night I found some more photos of the good old days.

My dad and I used to ride quite a bit on South Main Divide Truck Trail above Lake Elsinore. This was back in the late 60s, early 70s before it got paved.







Then there were the various desert trips.

Just found this thread. I love Bultacos also.

I'll start with my M214 Frontera, origianlly a 250, now a 370 with a M143 top end. I ride it in AHRMA Cross Country events.
