Thanx!

I'm about 2 relaxed riding days from Viena (aprox.800 km), but you enter in Romania about 280 km from me. So from Viena to Romania are about 530-550 km, on highway. This part you can do in a few hours.

@dave57 : I'm glad to hear that...

First, congratulations for you two making the big step of getting married!
Then, congratulations on your excellent reports, i am glad to see some familiar places again on your photos or to steal some ideas for future rides.
Salina Turda changed a whole lot since i visited it, several years ago there was no elevator, and not so many lights. Nevertheless, it was a good POI, and it must be still.
Romania is a great country for motorcycling, with some friends we make at least few on/offroad trips in every year.
Keep up the good work, and thanks for taking your time to write your RRs.
Üdv!

Thank you!
It's good to know, I can help people to remember the places visited. Showing new places it's always a pleasure, because I am stealing ideas too and I appreciate if there I can find some good info and pics. Maybe sometime we will meet on the road and

The White Castle

One day trip to Alba Iulia, the Red Ravine(only from distance because there is a highway construction) and Rimetea where we saw the Seklers Rock.

First stop near a lake - we eat our breakfast:

Arriving to the castle :

Szidi gets some info as usual:

The Roman Catholic Cathedral (built in the 10th and 11th century - it was completed in 1009 )

The tomb of Hunyadi János is located here, as is that of the Isabella, Queen of Hungary.

Security :

The Roman Catholic Cathedral - seen from a balcony

The tomb of Hunyadi János - Inside the The Roman Catholic Cathedral

Nice :

The entrance of The Roman Catholic Cathedral

Have a nice day !

One of the entrances :

A fight is going on (yes it's always because of a girl) :

Nice place to walk:

The Romanian Orthodox Cathedral :

On the road again :

The Red Ravine - seen from a distance because there is a highway under construction and we had no time for a long detour

In the Western Carpathians :

Szidi & Frank or Frank & Szidy?

The Seklers Rock

...and this is the goodbye picture :P

Fantastic write ups and photos.
Riding through Romania this summer en route to Turkey; I'm not sure if we'll get out of Romania now :)
Planning to camp as much as possible, rough camping would be cool so it's good to hear that it's not so hard to do.

Looks fantastic, doesn't it. The bits with tarmac, anyway - I'm wondering if I'm going to have to rethink my tyre choice. Three days to cross the country just doesn't seem like nearly enough with scenery like that.

But the Transfagasaran...it's got to be done.

Take your time.... there is a lot to see....in some places the time stood still....the Transfagarasan worth to be ridden, but don't forget to ride the unpaved roads too.... the more you go off road, the more the scenery gets wilder.

Alas, time is something we won't have. Not for this trip, anyway. I'd originally wanted to ride as far as Constanta, to at least get to the Black Sea, and then plans started to escalate until we ended up with Istanbul as the goal. In the context of this trip, Romania is the place we need to go through to get from Hungary to Bulgaria. Our jobs mean we're all going to be on a fairly tight schedule, if we make it.

But the more I see about Romania, the more I wish we had an extra couple of weeks to do the trip. Depending how things go, a return visit may be on the cards...
