how to draw a route using coordinates

I'm new to this gps stuff. Wondering if it is possible and if how to create a route by putting in gps coordinates. I'm looking to ride the tat this summer and have Sams maps and roll charts. Would like to make a map using his coordinates.

Thanks

Sorry, I'm using a garmin montania and basecamp.

First I think most people would advise you to use FIXED Tracks not variable Routes as the base. You can still autoroute to waypoints alont the way.

I do not use BC but on MS I just draw tracks from Sams maps and roll chart. If you look at bottom it shows Lon/Lat of cursor location so you can see that you are going thur Sams points. Worst case make a waypoint for each of sams points then draw the trach thru them but that is more work than necessary.

Also not a "Which GPS" question.

Hello Steve,

if the maps were purchased from Sam, he has GPS coordinates for all states. Contact directly.

I think he know that when he said "Would like to make a map using his coordinates".

His question was "how" to make rouite not "where to get coordinates".

Good evening Steve,

If you would like to add and adjust the GPS Lat/Long in Basecamp here are the keystrokes:

Open Basecamp>Tools>Waypoint>Click on the map (which automatically creates a waypoint). Click and select the waypoint number (a small finger will appear when you are right over the number). Once you click the number, the GPS coordinates for that waypoint appear>Change the coordinates for the waypoint. As you change the coordinates, the waypoint will automatically update and most likely move on the base map as you are typing it in.>Press the "X" in the upper right corner to close and save.

You will then create a new route by adding the waypoints in succession and having Basecamp recalculate route. The advantage of creating a route first is you can change the route all over to the exact roads you want. Then, once finalized, jsut right click the route and select>convert route to track.

Good luck. If you would like some more info, this page may offer some insight.

There are some good videos on youtube for basics. Here are the Official Garmin Blog Basecamp Training Videos and some others on Garmins Youtube page for Basecamp specifically.
