Anyone with Ducati Monster knowledge?
Ok I posted this over at the Ducati Monster forum and still don't have an answer. This might be completely dumb and easy to answer but is the frame and swing arm on a 2002 Monster S4 (not S4R) the same as a 2002 Monster 900ie? From what I can find they are but I want someone else to confirm or deny this. Thanks!

No.
The frames are much the same, but look between around the intakes and you'll see that the frame bracing is different. I have seen a 4V engine in a 2V frame before but its not a great idea as it involves cutting the bracing out, weakening the frame and then fitting a more powerful motor. Very minor differences at the back as well. Mark |

ducatimonsterforum.org is a reliable resource, you must've tried 'the other board'.

I have always gotten very little help from monster forums. Nothing like posting on SV forums and getting 20 answers, or KLR forums.
Makes me hate the bike when something is wrong with it.

Nope that is the monster forum where I posted as well. I agree, seems like that site is nothing like this one. I have to say though...I love my Monster...and got it so cheap....I would be hard pressed to get that kind of value and grin factor out of a Jap bike....and I have owned a 95 VFR 750.....which I loved but this is sooooo good.

Fun factor rating, highest to lowest sv650 695 fz1 klr The sv and monster would be equal but it has some quirks while my sv has 0. I dont think I will ever buy another 4 cylinder bike, twins are so much better for the street.

My first bike was the 1997 Monster 750 I still own....
...make sure you try THIS Monster Forum:
http://www.ducatimonsterforum.org/in...w;action=forum This was the original USA forum from back in the day. Long story, but it was spun off and the "other" forum popped up and does a better job of showing up in searches. This ADV Forum is great, but there is a lot of bad information everywhere. You have to be diligent and really read multiple posts from folks in order to come to a conclusion about how trust worthy they really are. Remember, it's the interweb, anybody can post anything and make it look real. Shoot, there must be at least fifty hot redheads out there who want me to take them to their Senior Prom. ![]() This forum, while not as good, is somewhat helpful: http://www.ducati.ms/forums/42-monster/ Also, in the Ducati community, the vendors are very, very helpful. Check these out: http://ca-cycleworks.com/ http://www.ferracci.com/bikeList.php?brand=1&cat=1 http://www.metricmotorcycles.com/ Good luck. Welcome to the wacky world of Monster ownership. I LOVE mine. Cheers.

Depends on the year of the 900ie. 2002 up to 2007, you should be okay. But I would check with Motowheels or a similar accessory dealer to be certain.

Yes it will fit, but don't expect a miraculous improvement in the handling. The condition of the shock and all of the bearings in the swingarm & linkage will make a far bigger difference than bolting in a 10 year old shock from a supposedly better bike.

Speaking of Monsters..... Is there an official Ducati Monster Thread?
I like it here. I don't want to go wading through another forum for info. If there isn't, I will start one. Might as well right? Every other damn bike has it's own "mega thread".

Scattered a bit, but the biggest one is 'why not a monster?'
It could be renamed, if that is desired. |
