Although the response is much quicker, and its pretty easy to use (tapatalk) i think i prefer the ADV app, It is not as responsive (a little slower responding to the touch keyboard), it is setup just like the actual ADV webpage, and i think i prefer it because im familiar with the setup and layout. Keep in mind i am a developer and i am kind of picky about how my app's function, and how they are laid out.

The most interesting part is that the article states that despite Marc Coma not being be able to battle Depres this year, Coma has been coaching Kurt Caselli in order to get him ready for the rally. It reads:

Cyril will not have the chance to continue his rivalry with Marc Coma at the upcoming Dakar because his KTM team-mate has been forced to pull out due to injury. However, that has not stopped Marc from making the trip to Peru where he is using his Dakar know-how to mentor his replacement.

“I have been trying to transmit my experience to Kurt Caselli because everything is new for him. The races he has been doing are completely different from this but to be honest every type is racing is different when compared to the Dakar.”

Could it be that Coma wants to do whatever he can not only to help Caselli, but also to increase the pressure on Depres?

THIS ^^^ Could be the single biggest advantage the rookie caselli has at his disposal (aside from his obvious copious amounts of raw natural riding talent). Having Marc Come around to explain all the checkin, check out control/rally procedure, when to do this, not to do that etc. as well as regular riding tactics, navigation trips, landmines and pitfalls (like what would you give ti have MC go through the RB with you of a night... access to the KTM global earth resource and his collection of coloured highlighter marker pens ?! )

I can imagine that Marc will take his mentor role very seriously - much like he had Jordi Arcarons who mentored for him in his early career at KTM - a responsibility that many underestimate just HOW much help a good team manager/mentor on the Dakar can be... if the very top is where you want/need to be.

This just reinforces the high opinion that I have (almost) always held for Marc... kudos! And good luck to both Kurt and Marc on this Dakar!

Over here in the UK it's now 8am on 5 January - so in my book it's the first day of the Dakar.

Can I wish ALL competitors, no matter where they are from, on 2 wheels or 4 (or even 6), a safe event

Note also the 3 min intervals for the top ten - much more emphasis on navigation at the top end

11 - 20 1 minute and thereafter 30 secs in 1's or even 2's - it's going to be pretty tough to pull a lot of time but I still think the quick boys won't be too fussed today, they will be happy to see some navigation rookies go off at 3 min intervals

Is Coma staying with the Bivouac, or was he just there for the pre race festivities?

The article doesn't state it as such, but my impression was that Marc will stay on for the race... He lives for the Dakar, and I am sure that KTM would see the advantage of having him enlisted in a Team manager role (all access) in the situation where he is not competing... but CAN be of a big help to Caselli's rookie ride...

I would suggest you are right there Flood, HRC will very probably be taking instructions from Philipe/his Family as they do not really have the position now to comment on such things, especially if they are not perfect and as he has been in hospital a month now we can assume there are issues of sorts?
Plus as harsh as it sounds they have not been in the position to be focussing on the public side of this over the last couple of weeks, or the next couple;
but I'm sure that doesn't mean that it's being ignored
