Return?
Great stuff Jim. It was a pleasure to meet you and hang with you for a few days. I hope that the bike gets sorted out soon. San Miguel de Allende is a great place. Will have been here for a week tomorrow. Staying at Posada de las Monjas. Good affordable place with secure parking and short walk to Jardin. No flower pots to crunch! Some great local riding.

Oyster,
Be sure to be in the Zocalo New Years Eve. Good fireworks and a generally fun time.

A few more of zacatecas
![]() This officer is extremely proud of his ST1300. He was standing off to the side when he saw that I was about to take a picture of his bike. He quickly motioned to me to wait, while he strut over to his bike, put on his hat and sunglasses, and got back on it. Then he flashed his "serious" expression! I don't think I could outrun him on my DR, even after I install my new carburetor :) ![]() This is a front tire on a delivery truck in Zacatecas. I wonder what the tire will look like when he decides to replace it? Hopefully he'll replace the 2 missing lug nuts sometime soon. All kidding aside, I have to share the road with this truck! ![]() This colorful character was watching the activities at the Ice Rink. I love to see and to watch interesting people! |

Heading back to california on 12.22.12
![]() From the Zacatecas airport, I flew to Mexico City, then to Guadalajara, and on to Sacramento, CA. This pic was taken on our approach to Mexico City...up through the fog and smog rose these two mountains, with a cloud trailing off to the side of the more prominent one. ![]() Dropping down into the infamous Mexico City air. From up above, the city looked welcoming...not at all like scenes from "Man On Fire"! ![]() Despite the masked policeman and dog, the airport was incredibly friendly. When I asked for help because my gate wasn't listed, an Aeromexico attendant walked with me a great distance, guiding me to my gate. This was another one of the many experiences I've had in Mexico, from people that extended themselves beyond anything I ever expected. ![]() There's the Salidas/Departures board...third from the top, my gateless flight to Guadalajara! A Tiempo...si! ![]() And there is my stylish Aeromexico flight attendant...love that hat! jrzyguy screwed with this post 01-03-2013 at 03:19 PM |

So what's my plan?
I do have a plan...it's loose, but it's my plan! First things first, a huge and sincere thank you to all of my friends that offered help in trying to diagnose the problem with my bike. I'd still be clueless without your help....thank you! I will be on a redeye Aeromexico flight this Tuesday, the 8th, returning to Zacatecas, MX. With me will be a new Mukuni TM40 Pumper carburetor, new plugs, fuel filters, a new coil and plug wires, and a new high-output stator & gasket. I'm trusting my CDI, since I was getting spark...and no one I communicated with has either seen or heard of a bad unit that was still putting out spark.
The plugs, fuel filter, and carb will go on first. Please wish me luck...I hope to update my RR late on Wednesday with news of success! |

Jim,
Best of luck with the DR! I'm back in Mexico City, so don't hesitate to reach out if you need parts (hopefully not!) or translation (courtesy of the wife) help. I'm also happy to jump up to Zacatecas if I can be helpful. Hope to catch up soon. Looking forward to seeing you and this ride report get rolling again!
