Update:

Fontyn has stopped after a navigational mistake which forced him to make an unnecessary loop in what looks like some pretty tough dunes. Hope it's only a mechanical

Dubois, who was the first to figure out the correct route has now also stopped, forfeiting his advantage and letting a gaggle of riders catch up to him, Guillaume included. Looks like they are all trying to figure out the correct heading, again.

Today looks like it's going to frustrate quite a few of them...

My pleasure, just practicing for the Dakar thread...

No, in all seriousness, I am just as in awe of the guys doing this as I am of any privateer attempting the Dakar, Africa is just awesome... but that's a debate for another thread I suppose

update: Fontyn got moving again but is way behind, Guillaume is up front with Dubois and 3-4 others, good to see everyone moving along.

Martin R is shown as stationary since this morning (my guess is he hasn't started the stage), and THomas Schattat is not showing up anywhere on the live tracking, so not sure if he started either

Got an email from Martin early this morning,

hy.

i got high temperature on the rest day because of the wind a wetness in the nights. on day 6, we had an 371km liasion, starting at 05.30, there haf been. 4degrees and my warm clothes got lost in the dunes. so it was the horror for me. the ss6 i started already with a lot of medicals, but i could finisch. yesrerday i easn't able to race and thought that the assistance wy to the biwag wozld be ok. but again, 500km in a sandstorm! i do not feel very well, so i decided to stay today at the biwag (we'lhy.

Only 11 bikers left in the Overall standings, it lookslike Thomas Schattat & Martin Rabenlehner are out

Tomorrow the Special is 442kms

I can't believe on what a roll Guillaume is on!

Dad said he had gearbox issues on his bike, couldn't shift at certain times and was losing oil. Skipped the day yesterday but back en route today!

I can see from the tracking that 2 riders spent the night on the Special and are catching up to the course just now:

Bouchet & Dubois... also Rabenlehner is missing as he is so sick I think that he is only doing transfer sections from bivouac to bivouac...

C'est l' Afrique!
