Evenin' all
50 plus page catch up for your's truly today... but made it through to the lead page here in reasonable time...For mine, the F5 hi's and lo's on SS2... Bluebull fumbles the plunger on the pyrotechnics first thing this morning and blows up the official ASO timing for the better part of the day... with intermittent tracking dropouts and what have you. ![]() Fortunately Mischa (as always ) comes to the rescue with the privateer nl.f5actory tracker effort and saves all the WP hunters from going stir crazy... ![]() On the bikes today full marks to Husky Speedbrain... Barreda looks to have that podium glance in his eye ever since Ouzarzate in October... And Matty Fish... way to go matey! A sterling effort to follow the team leader in by a comfy 6 minute gap on the stage on the scoring sheet, to sit in 6th overall, only 10 minutes back... great job (he musnät have seen Gonk on the way through? ). But any team manager that makes the call for him to "park" (after the DSS) for more than 20 minutes tomorrow morning and wait for the third team mate (waterboy role or not) has rocks in their head. Tomorrow he is ideally placed to help Barreda and put starting bid in for Husqvarna to challenge through the first week. ![]() Lot's of new names (including Aussies) in the top 20... Darly Curtis (RSA) and Kurt Caselli (USA) both very impressive ![]() As far as the "Aliens" are concerned, well Despres is there right there just under 9 minutes back... early days yet... is Faria trying to pull a coup d'état or just a brainfart? ![]() Helder is maybe a touch further down than would have planned... but at 12 minutes down and out in 15th pos on the piste tomorrow, h e is still in touch. Sad to hear of the retirements so far (especially the ADV affilliated ones)... but there is always someone who has their adventure end, before it even really starts... that the pain that is walking the DAKAR balance beam... fall off just once, and it can be over. The auto's are still out there battling, but it seems the first "big dunes" have dealt a joker card to the speedy "WD's that headed the field on yesterdays 13 km sprint.... I say MINI and Toyota regarded today as the first day at the office... yesterday was just the corporate kick off. ![]() Anyway... onwards and upwards f5'ers... it is only day two!

Uruguayan rider Laurent Lazard #63 is sponsored by Elf and is prominently displaying pink colors all over his bike, uniform, and helmet. All to support a cure for breast cancer. Elf is donating one peso for each kilometer he completes.
Cool. (pic from 2012. Can't find latest pic)

But why?Would make sense for caselli to hold station after the DSS (he is closest to Despres in the re-start order tomorrow) AND he has the least nav experience... wait for Le Cyril to take the start, jump on his caboose and have a day of Dakar 101 tomorrow...? When and if needed, he is right there and by rights (if the dedicated "waterboys" are only meandering along)... they should pick them up by the refuel...?
