aklizzard, definitely get the Eagle Mike doohickey, it is really the only choice to consider. Both his product and his customer service are outstanding. As for your choice of springs, I lean towards the torsion spring, even though installation is slightly more involved. (mostly just drilling a small hole for one end of the spring to reside) But if you go with an EM coil spring it is more than adequate, and an improvement over the OEM spring.

Unstable: that's a great representation of an OEM "doohickey" (with about 9000 miles on it) and the motion it goes through as it is being adjusted. (just before it gets replaced)

Sorry, when I did my KLR, the factory spring was loose, I started to try to get one of the new coil springs on, and quickly determined, it was actually easier to get the Torsion spring on there!

Just take your time, and be really careful and keep pressure on the, bar, crap, can't remember the name, too tired to re-read the instructions, rod, what ever, it has a thrust washer in there, and if you allow it to come out to far when pulling the side case off you can loose the washer in the bottom of the case.

Wish I got the doo-hickey before I rode the KLR to AK, the engine was noticeably smother after it was done, well, when the tensioner was actually placing the correct tension on the chain that is

I've done over 3 dozen, there is a lot of bad ones. the "new" generation lever is better but fits loose on the shaft, and the spring is too long. if yours is still attached it will be just laying there... as in not doing anything
