Corporate media plays a large role in it.
Tonight, Eurosport had a much wider and colorful selection of personalities and stories to present, but they choose to show us a guy holding an energy drink.

I know it's a 205 (if you can 205 yourself)? from last year but for who have forgotten or are new here

It is the end of the Dakar Rally but the question of whether the African Dakars were harder than the South American will not go away. In attempt to discover the truth Dakar greats Hubert Auriol, Eddie Orioli and Cyril Neveu have been invited to discuss the subject with Stephane Peterhansel. With over twenty victories between them they remenis of past rallies, a little know fact is that they have all in recent years relocated to Yorkshire......

Hubert: Aye, very passable, that, very passable bit of energy drink.

Eddie: Nothing like a good can of Red Bull, eh, Cyril?

Cyril: You're right there, Eddie

Stephane: Who'd have thought thirty year ago you'd all be sittin' here in South America drinking Red Bull, eh?

Hubert: In them days we was glad to get a bottle of water.

Eddie: A bottle of warm water.

Stephane: Without a bottle.

Cyril: Or water.

Hubert: In a cracked cup, an' all.

Stephane: Oh, we never had a cup. We used to have to drink out of a rolled up newspaper.

Eddie: The best we could manage was to suck on a piece of damp cloth.

Cyril: But you know, we were happy in those days, though it were hard.

Hubert: Because it was hard. My old Team Manager used to say to me, "Money doesn't buy you victory, son".

Stephane: Aye, 'e was right.

Hubert: Aye, 'e was.

Stephane: I was happier then and I had nothin'. We used to sleep in this tiny old tent with great big holes in the roof.

Eddie: Tent! You were lucky to sleep in a tent! We used to sleep under a tarp, all twenty-six of us, no sleeping mats, 'alf the tarp was missing, and we were all 'uddled together in one corner for fear of being kidnapped by Mauritanian terrorists.

Cyril: Eh, you were lucky to have a tarp! We used to have to sleep out in t' desert!

Hubert: Oh, we used to dream of sleepin' out in the desert! Would ha' been a palace to us. We used to live in an old Bedouin rubbish tip. We got woke up every morning by having a load of rotting camel meat dumped all over us! Tent? Huh.

Stephane: Well, when I say tent, it was only a hole in the ground covered by a sheet of tarpaulin, but it was a tent to us.

Eddie: We were evicted from our 'ole in the ground by ASO; we 'ad to go and sleep in the Lac Rose.

Cyril: You were lucky to have a lake! There were a hundred and fifty of us sleeping in t' shoebox in t' middle o' piste.

Hubert: Cardboard box?

Cyril: Aye.

Hubert: You were lucky. We lived for the whole two weeks in a paper bag in a septic tank. We used to have to get up at four in the morning, clean the paper bag, eat a crust of stale bread, ride our bikes for fourteen hours a day, day-in day-out, for sixpence a week, and when we got to the bivouac our team manager would thrash us to sleep wi' his belt.

Eddie: Luxury. We used to have to get out of the lake at four o'clock in the morning, clean the lake, eat a handful of 'ot gravel, ride a twenty hour day for tuppence a month, come in, and our team manager would thrash us to sleep with a broken bottle, if we were lucky!

Cyril: Well, of course, we had it tough. We used to 'ave to get up out of shoebox at twelve o'clock at night and lick bivouac clean wit' tongue. We had two bits of cold gravel, rode twenty-four hours a day mostly through fesh fesh for sixpence every four years, and when we got home our team manager would slice us in two wit' bread knife.

Stephane: Right. I had to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night half an hour before I went to bed, drink a cup of sulphuric acid, ride twenty-nine hours a day all of it in fesh fesh, and pay team manager for permission to ride wi' team, and when we got to the bivouac, our he would kill us and dance about on our graves singing Hallelujah.

Hubert: And you try and tell Marc or Cyril that ..... they won't believe you.

ALL: They won't!

With apologies to Monty Python

We used to laugh at my uncle because he never curved the bill. Dare to be an individual, roll it and pull the sticker off. There was a few shots with Peterhansel last year with a flat/ sticker, but then he pulled it off, and they gave him a new hat with the sticker back on the bill. I don't get tucking your ears in either. By a hat that fits! I am old though, 43 today, and sick as a dog. Nice birthday. It's given me plenty of time to figure out the streaming vid though. Yay! *cough hack cough*
