More likely they cannot do anything about it; Dealers are independent and can work for or refuse to work for whoever they want.

That may be the case but if that's so they should at least pick up the phone and say so. We have two Kawasaki's in our Garage, but if I continue to do trips like this, lack of dealer and distributor support would be a determining factor in deciding what to buy next.

I am so lucky I went to Freedom Bike Rentals and had a light the other night when I was caught riding in the rain.

In the meantime Kawasaki makes a fine product, in the KLR650, that you can ride a round the world. I would think they would want to know that when someone does take one on an extended adventure, that their efforts are being subverted by a dealer that will refuse to service someone 12000 miles from home. Kinda defeats their efforts.

I am really surprised they have not even returned my call.

Montanita

I'm in Montanita. I arrived yesterday just after noon. I had a difficult time finding a place that had parking for the bike but finally got one. Pricey by Ecuador standards at $40.00 There is not much to hold me here. It is a beach town and has a nice beach it is really busy and really overun with young kids.

I am getting ready to head to Cuenca tomorrow.

I have some pictures to download and I would have done so this morning but I am having some computer issues. A call to my friend Tom at home through skype resolved the issue. I could connect to the internet but I had no access. I could skype but could not get online. A DNS server issue that Tom solved over the phone, thankfully

Thanks Tom!

I will try and post some pictures later today.

Those who read my report closely will know that I asked readers to donate to Stephanie's cause rather than my report for a long while. Advrider readers of my report really came through.

Thank you so much for all of your donations to Stephanie's cause. You have all helped a village in Nicaragua improve their learning center. I am proud my ride report was able to help her reach her goal.

As I said before my Ride Report is free. You are under no obligation to contribute but if you feel you are receiving some entertainment value from the work i put into my report then this is your chance to donate a few bucks accordingly

I used some of the donations I received to buy Ecuador Maps I needed for my GPS. It was great!

I am not that computer savvy so I just made up a few options for you to click on. Thank you in advance for any donations received.

Maybe they're finally taking an Engineering 101 course..
Went out for a spin today (-5, nice NS day) and no go, the sidestand switch
when disassembled was a solid block of ice. How the hell can a simple switch like that
be so poorly designed to trap and hold water?!
Enjoy the heat Dwight, loving the RR!

I am in Cuenca Now. at the Hostal la Cofraidia del Monje. You could easily hit the big cathedral here with a golf ball from my room. Very nice place and they let me put the bike in the restaurant. I have a beautiful room with a hot shower a TV and a private bath for $29 in the heart of the old city. Awesome!

I have a big report with lots of pictures coming up. Between trying to set up a website and having internet connection troubles the time I usually use for updates has been taken up doing other things.

I will make that right asap but first I have to find something to eat.

I hate my sidestand switch too. I have to be in neutral to start. WAPITA if you happen to stall in traffic

Quito to Cuenca

I have a lot of ride report to catch up on.

Before I left Quito Steve, Julie and I made a trip to the Old Town.

We had supper at a nice hotel and I snapped a few pictures as dusk was falling. I never thought to get a picture of Julie and Steve...Duh!

A strange procedure. When a certain type of desert is ordered, they turn out the light in the restaurant, the desert looks like a big ice ream sundae with a sparkler in it, and it is delivered by a guy wearing what looks like a purple KKK outfit.

Bryce told me he had seen the procedure the day before and then we saw it the next night,

A few pictures from the ride Quito to Pedro Carbo

Not quite a chicken bus but not a highway coach either. There were tons of them on the road.

Lunch stop

The little guy that thought it was so funny to see an old Gringo appear from under my helmet

The crowd that gathered

The pouring rain before I found the Hotel Orlando

Pedro Carbo's the town the Hotel Orlando was in. This is the main street

Lots of these tuk tuks in town

Rush Hour

I tried to buy Soat (insurance) the ladies said I already had it. I do have an Ecuador document I didn't know I had. I think the Aduhana printed it and put it with my paperwork. I cant think of another explanation

Next Day, on the ride from the Hotel Orlando to Montanita

Ecuador Coast north of Montanita

The road from where I met the Ocean to Montanita was great. Used amost all the tire

Montanita

Modified Yaris

The church next to my Hostal....Labrador?

A bunch of Colombian and Ecuador bikes were in town

This Ducati Diavel was nice

My German friends, from Cali were also in town. Jana, Nikko, and Lawrence. They are now travling with Maline. She is a very nice girl, a nurse from Denmark

In Quito, Nikko walked home alone from a bar late one night and was robbed of his camera, or more accurately Laurence's camera. He was unhurt until he punched a concrete wall in frustration and broke his hand. Now he's in a cast for 8 weeks. I should have taken a picture of the cast. I forgot.

The Germans have a tradition of melting a soft metal in a spoon over a candle and droppit it in water. Then your friends interpret the shape to see what kind of a New Year you're going to have.

I took this picture of Jana taking her turn but the photo didn't turn out too well

While we were doing that here is the street scene below. My Hostal is the one across the street in the upper left. $40 bucks for a room with no towel and no TP. They had parking for the moto though and secure parking was hard to find

At one intersection there were hundreds of these little birds sleeping on the power lines

We watched NFL football yesterday....Seahawks Won!

Then today it was time to move again and I rode to Cuenca

Along the Ecuador Coast

The terrain is very dry, Lots of cactus growing up through bare bushes

Nice old jeep at a gas station along the way

You have to like Ecuador gas prices

3.24 gallons for $7.07

lots of little places like this all along the way

I finally crossed the desert section and began to climb the pass to Cuenca. Foggy, rainy cold and then really cold the higher I got. It was about 30C when I left Montanita and it must have been close to freezing at the top of the pass. I had my winter gloves on and the heated grip on 4 and my hands were still chilly

My Hostal in Cuenca

They let me park my bike in their restaurant.

The view from my room

Another church on the other side of the Hostal

My moto in the restaurant

Nice room

Now you're up to date, more from Cuenca tomorrow

I greatly enjoyed your last series of pix. Fascinating. I think you grabbed a good deal of the spirit of the places you recently visited and conveyed them well to we who are sitting here in our offices.

Just to explain one thing. San Isidore Labrador means he's St. Izzie, the Laborer. It has nothing to do with the dog or Canada.

I knew when I took that picture that someone on ADVrider would be able to explain Labrador in Ecuador

Thanks
