Conditions Report

Myself and two other guys rode the TWAT for the first time three weeks ago. The conditions were perfect. A couple puddles here and there, but all trails/roads were open except one road just a few miles from the finish. Signs said road closed but we went anyway and it was fine.

If you are wondering why one of bridges is missing a little lumber, thank Chad. Some sand got his tire and the bridge got the worst of it!

We met Dan, the owner of Clam Lake Power Sports. He was very interested in the route. He wanted everyone to know that if anyone broke down near Clam Lake, he has the equip to come get you. Nice guy. I have his contact info if anyone is interested.

I'll post some photos when I get a sec!

I finally finished the trail yesterday , I did from eau claire north in the spring , I parked my truck in augusta on sunday and rode south to hatfield on the eau claire/clark co atv trails and got on there . I stayed in prairie du chien sunday night and rode the rest of the way to illinoise monday morning and took highway back to my truck from prairie du chien . The new section through Iowa was maybe my favorite part of the whole trip . I want to get down there and ride around on the B roads in that area again

So how soon does the season start in the springtime to ride the T.W.A.T?
I'm from Cedar Rapids but have relatives near Potosi. I'll either be riding a 'Strom or an old honda 90 depending on my sense of adventure at the time.

Three of us are considering starting from the Quad City area early June (7-12maybe?), weather permitting (if it's not WAAY too wet- or still snow way up Nort, ya der hey.) We're probably not going to go too fast, so your 90 may not be out of the question.

And of course, post them here for the rest of us. Riding the TWAT is on my short list of places to go. Not sure it will be this year but show me what I'm missing.
Have fun and ride safe man..

Great ride

The twat does sound great. If someone would map out Cross Utah Nature Trail I could do the set!

The Strom would be a good choice for most of the route, a skid plate and crash bars would be nice to have though. I took mine on about the lower 1/2 of the route.

I like waiting to at least late May before I do the route, its so much nicer when its really green out and everything just looks nicer.

Chad, I was able to put the TWAT in my Nuvi 550. As a route not tracks. I am going to give her a go in early June on a CRF250L Best part is, I got a buddy with a cabin near Merrilan, and another cabin near Glidden. So no tents for me.

If they ever make that route, I'm in. Somebody would have to come up with some neat decals for that.
