There was never any intent by BMW to make the GSA a better dirt bike; the intent (successfully achieved, I think) was to make it a better adventure bike by fitting it with all the accessories and crash protection that most tourers taking their bikes into the bush typically fitted from the aftermarket, then close the deal with lower gearing and bigger gas tank, both mods that the aftermarket could never practically provide. You're right, the stock GSA is probably more of a beast in the dirt than the stock GS, although if you start fitting the GS with all the crash gear and don't fuel the GSA to more than the GS holds, I doubt the difference is significant.

BMW already has the smaller, lighter, bigger front wheel bike in their line up (the F800GS).

The GSA formula has worked so well for BMW, I'd be absolutely flabbergasted if BMW doesn't do almost exactly the same thing with the water-cooled GSA.

I think you probably meant to quote another poster and not me....I never said there was an intent to make the GSA a better dirt bike, in fact I argued just the opposite in my response in this thread...my post disputed another poster that claimed that one should wait for the GSA if they wanted to use it in the dirt and get 'mean'.

Sorry if I mis-quoted you or took something out of context. Sounds like we're in agreement. But.... I do think waiting for the GSA is not a bad strategy if you're going to be going deep in the bush and want all the protection bits anyway. Chance for BMW to get the bugs out too.

Not this again.

I would sooner give a homeless man a rim-job than discuss first-year production model pros/cons.

It's almost as pedestrian and pointless as the billion tire threads here.

I'll reply since Retro is probably out on the street finding a homeless man...

My S1000RR has been perfect, but I think the risk of problems is higher with a first-year model or the first-year of a heavily revised model, especially a BMW. And you usually don't get any deals. I try and wait if I can, but like we've been discussing, the Force is strong on some new bikes, and having the latest/greatest for a year or two is always fun.

ha ha I almost wet myself, but for those who can't afford it's nice to nit pick and talking about the incompetent engineers. Or they are simply revisionists.
By the way I wonder what tires and oil it benefit most from.
