Well....I did receive an insider teaser not too long ago.

In hindsight…. I probably should have faxed HOF a doodle to help him differentiate the top and bottom sides to my motorcycle…… cuz I think he's fabricating the exhaust upside down?

Shoot….maybe it's just camera lens distortion.

bmw r100s/5 high exhaust design

I'm still rolling the black rims/wheels I built, I swapped to this set while the bike sat at HOF's shop.

Currently, we have the rear muffler hangers mounted and the heat shields assembled. I fired the bike up a few weeks ago and we toodled around in the drizzly Pacific Northwest darkness.

The r100s engine runs smooth and quiet, which is in sharp contrast to ENORMOUS tone erupting from the stereo Cone Engineering mufflers.

I plan to fiddle with the bike over Christmas break. I need to wire my turn signals and ignition booster, diagnose my clackety starter, tweak the 38 mikunis (seem overly rich), and replace the rear brake pedal with a new tucked-in design… oh and take current photos!

I had Dunlop K70s on my CB550. They looked great, handled well, but they did track a bit funny on grooved concrete roads. Not sure if you have those around you. You know, the ones where they score / grind small parallel grooves in concrete roadways. Maybe it's just a Canadian thing?

Looks absolutely fantastic! Definitely digging the white fenders as well as the black wheels you have in the other photos. The exhaust wraps around the frame nice and snug, looks great!

I've got my /5 sitting in the garage, halfway apart and am verrry tempted to take a cue from your project upon rebuild...

No worries, cue away! My best ideas are likely appropriated from others anyway.

Made a little headway over my break. I cutout some tapering front turn signal brackets. They mount to the inside of the ears via the bucket bolts and allow for a snug fit.

turn signal brackets

I also traced my cranky starter to the /5 relay. Once I installed a later /7 starter relay, it solve that mystery.

Got the turn signals winking, horn beeping and the ignition booster tethered to the dual output dyna.

Thought the exhaust looked pretty skookum with the seat and tank removed. I still need to fab proper spacers for the rear exhaust mounts, but for the most part she's nearing streetable.

That is sharp looking. If someone decided to make that exhaust regularly, I would buy a set.*

Houseoffubar and I deliberated adding simple supports to the exhaust that guide the cables/wires safely, but with the current setup... the clearance is comfortable. Still, adding insulation sleeves to the spark plug wires would be sensible.

I'm certain the HoF will need further convincing to cobble more sets together.

You know… I have a snowballing tendency to shellack over details. Pretty soon I'll just post pics, sans sporadic narration.
