Especially when they only have about 5 hp difference? Then there are the quarter mile times.....TR650 faster than a 690? Don't think so. |

Strom 650 - 62.0 hp TR 650 - 47.9 hp KTM 690 - 46.21 hp G650 XMoto - 45.5 hp F650GS - 42.3 hp Sertao - 42.15 hp KLR 650 - 36.1 hp DR 650 - 35.6 hp XR650L - 33.3 hp DRZ400s - 32.35 hp However, MCN felt the KTM 690 numbers were probably lower than actual horsepower due to the knobby tires. In their review they wrote, "This is one potent single. KTM claims 63 crank hp at 7500 rpm. Our dyno testing yielded 46.3 rear-wheel hp @ 7250 rpm and 35.65 lb.-ft. of torque @ 6500 rpm, but those numbers probably should’ve been better. We also had a new 690 Duke on hand, and it peaked at 59.76 hp and 46.13 ft.-lb. of torque on street tires. The Duke’s airbox and exhaust are different, but its engine specs are identical to the Enduro R’s, leading us to believe the R’s rear knobby couldn’t get a decent bite on the dyno’s heavy drum. Our test Enduro R unit posted a respectable quarter-mile run of 13.12 sec. @ 96.33 mph, with a 0–60 mph time of 4.56 sec. and a top speed of 107.5 mph." Here is the article.

Drz 400
RWHP is way off. More than an XRL /DR/KLR for sure. IT out accelerates them easily. Had 2 new XRLs. Pretty gutless compared to the DRZ. Good bottom end though, just nothing on top.

It's a nice list, but with those two issues, I question it's accuracy.

What was the power difference between the 654cc KTM 690 and the 2012 on 690cc versions?

A DRZ may have lower overall gearing and feel peppier, although neither bike is what you would call peppy. A DR650 makes more torque, pulls taller gears, has taller gears and I never once thought my 400 DRZe was faster then my DR. "Out accelerates them easily"? Didnt seem that way. Spin both up to 95mph and see which gets there quicker,or even 75mph.

I finally placed an order for a Terra yesterday, but what a screw-around I went through. Check this out. There is a BMW/Husky dealer located about 20 minutes from my house. I have been phoning them every week or so for the last 3 months asking about the Terra and when they would have them in stock. First it was early Nov, then it was late Nov, then the middle of Dec, then early Jan for sure. Phoned them up yesterday and they still didn't have them and the salesman finally admitted to me that they hadn't even ordered them yet but said I could put a $1000 deposit on one if I wanted and I'd be sure to get the first one they got in. I asked him if I placed the deposit would he be able to give me assurance about when they'd be in and he said no. I then asked him if I made a deposit would that get them to order the bikes. Again the answer was no. He said there was some kind of issue with Husky Canada and they would not be ordering the bikes until it was resolved and he had no idea when that would be. *&$^&^$%%^# bulllshit!!!!!
So I phoned the next nearest dealer who happens to be located in Victoria on Vancouver Island. They didn't have them either but said they would order one for me and would check availability and let me know. About a half an hour later they called me back and said they found one in Toronto and could have it here in about one to two weeks, but they'd require a $1000 deposit before they ordered it. Put the deposit on my Mastercard and should be able to post a first ride report by the end of the month. Finally!!! So now all I gotta do is take a 1 1/2 hour ferry ride to Vancouver Island to buy a bike I've never seen. Sure hope it's as good as you guys have been saying it is.

Where you guys getting the numbers for the vstrom hp? Everything I can find, from magazines to suzuki's websites, state the engine horsepower is 64 hp. I did find where one website stated 64bhp. If these numbers are correct, it would be impossible to have 62 hp at the wheel.
