AlpineGuerrilla, Tersky coast is not the border area, so you must not have any problems. But if you plan to fish, you must buy fishing license.

Yes, there are some very cool ADV destination on the Kola Peninsula.

I was hoping the Wikipedia information was outdated - now that's some good news. Thanks the clarification. Now if only they would open their sub harbor, would sure be interesting to have a look at their nuclear subs.

Great ride report.

Man, what a great ride report. Thank you for taking the time to post it. It's interesting, to me, that no matter where we are, no matter who we are, some of us have a drive to get out and explore the land and the history.

Thanks again for sharing,
Huero

I remember that there was a checkpoint about 70km before the norwegian border - that's before the turnoff to Rybachy. Is it that checkpoint which has been removed?

Sorry for hijacking this thread, but this RR deserverd a bump anyway.
As of last year, it worked like this: at Titovka, there IS a checkpoint, but it is just that, a checkpoint. They do check your documents, so you should have *some*. That is, doesn't matter if you are Russian or a foreigner - show valid ID and you're free to go, onwards towards Kirkenes or turning right onto the Sredny and Rybachy, they don't care.

I'm just about to post up an RR about my ride to Rybachy from last summer with a bunch of BMW riders.

While I'm at it, excellent video from your northern trip throughout Russia and Scandinavia :) you rode quite close to where I live (about midway between St.Petersburg and Vyborg), even if in transit. If you will be passing St.Petersburg this year, feel free to drop me a PM.

Why can't photo the channel? is it a border?
[QUOTE=Donogh;13961873]

The church near the beginning of the White sea-Baltic sea channel. It`s restricted to photograph the channel itself, unfortunately...

Because it`s some kind of a military object, as I understand.

Coming late to the party here, but great trip report! And great pictures! I'm from Yellowknife, NT, Canada, so when it comes to mosquitoes and not getting dark at night in the summer, I knew exactly what you were going through.

My kids told me this thing that's been going around ... "Did you know you only need to cross one country to get from North Korea to Finland?" (or sometimes "North Korea to Norway?") That got me thinking ... what would it be like to do a trip roughly from Murmansk to Vladivostok? (It would be especially cool to start at the Russia/Norway border crossing near Kirkenes/Elvenes in Norway, where the M18/E105 starts, about 215 km from Murmansk, and end at the village of Khasan in Primorsky Krai, just across the Tumen River from North Korea, and about 275 km from Vladivostok.)

Do you know if anyone has done such a trip, especially recently? (I heard that the Zilov Gap has finally been conquered with a road.) This is something I'd love to do in the future some summer; for example, ride around in Europe, then go north through Norway, then ride across Russia, then take the train back from Vladivostok (I assume one can ship a motorcycle on the train somehow).

Офигенный репорт! Я сам из России (родился и вырос в Самаре), но с 2005 года живу в штатах, и такое мото-путешествие было бы приключением всей жизни! Так приятно видеть все ваши фотки! Молодцы Земляки!

yellowknife, thank you!

aszek13, to see northern lights on motorcycle with skis! It`s one of my motorcycling dreams! I shall read your report carefully, thank you for the link.

IvanRUS, your link does not work, unfortunately.

SamRus, привет! Спасибо за тёплые слова! Как тебе в Америке, нравится?

robertyknwt, thank you for your kind words. As I see in Google maps, you are surrounded by water from all directions in Yellowknife There must be hordes of mosquitoes! If you will do that trip through Russia, it will be a great and very long one!
