Yep, I'll be there too.
I had the excellent opportunity to ride with Sterling and Bryce this past summer on the ORBDR and had a great time!
This should be good!

Buell Ulysses runs the WABDR

I was hoping to have a vid and pics along with the update but it is taking awhile to get through 111GB of footage . The Buell did great! That motor just chugs. The intake got caked with dust due to the UNI foam air filter slipping out of place and allowing the dust past, had to ride it like a 2-stroke to keep it running for 2 days . The 4.60-17 Kenda K270 on the front did great (as far as I know without any dirtbike experience to compare it to). As you may remember, I ran it tubeless and never had to top off with air! There is now the 120/70-17 TKC-80 available but I like the fact I got more diameter and more tire between the big rocks and my alloy rims with the 4.60-17's. I may stick with those when we do the UTBDR next year (I'm hooked)! Iv'e been researching other adventure touring bikes just for these BDR's (a bucket list item for me now is to do them all), but I may just see how far the Buell can take me. Just for the heck of it. Everyone including myself was very impressed on how well it did. The best bike experience so far! See a couple pics and a vid in the link. A great youtube vid is being produced....stay tuned

I finally got our vid done of my Buell WABDR trip with my new friends. This vid was for all the guys on the trip. I'm still working on a version with much better footage highlighting just the Buell. Enjoy!!! Click on the link below:

when to ride the wbcdr - sept?

September is your best bet. The first frost above 3000' kills all the mosquitos. Then if it rains a little there would be little dust. Then the conditions can be perfect. If it is dry and warm all thru Sept you get both the bugs and the dust. Not very likely. That would be the case most often in August. You can avoid the bugs by camping at lower elevations. Last year, we had a camp out Sept 8th-. It had rained a few days and got below freezing one night. Then it warmed up before our camp out. Perfect.

WABDR Ruby Grade in April? advice

Tomorrow I am heading over to a friends cabin for a few days near Loup Loup Pass. Taking my Vstrom DL650. Was thinking of trying the Loup Loup Canyon Road north to Conconully one day. I have not been on it before and have questions. Does this time of year present problems? (Weather should be decent.) I will be by myself and have read some reports that Ruby Grade can be intimidating, what do you think? (I figured on going south to north, then taking highway back south if time is short or I don't want to backtrack.) All advice is appreciated. I am mostly a road rider with little dirt experience.

I'll bet at least part of it is still snowy.

Snow will be your issue. You might get a few miles up some roads but it's barely April here... not foolin'.

we've got snow knee deep at about that elevation.

I'll bet there is snow still.

I was in Winthrop last weekend - everything in the open was snow free but as soon as there was a bit of shade there was still 1-2 feet of snow. So very unlikely you will be able to make it. We tried last year at the end of May and still had to turn around...
