Bend "Winter" Rides
So this is my first winter here in Bend. The winters seem mild and the roads seem dry.
Now I know, we are dirt riders. Roads or for people who have places to go. But come on, we can ride most of the winter. If anyone wants to go riding in Bend this would be a great spot we can discuss meeting up. On that note. Anyone want to go riding? |

I rode almost all of last winter, but this year so far the dirt roads are pretty much snowed in. Even Millican Plateau has snow right now. I don't mind riding in some snow, but with the thaw freeze cycles we've had there's lots of ice too. No go for me on that stuff!
This is what it's going to look like now. (Pics from part of last winter) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This is what much of last winter looked like.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I'm up for riding but getting out of East is tough with all this solid ice in town. My studded tires arrive next week but they're the DOT legal ones; I'm not sure if they're aggressive enough for really twisting the throttle. One way to find out!

Im sure i will be him sometime. I dont know where Millicanplateau is but i am down to go explore the crap out of it. |

It's actually about 25 miles from there.
From Bend, Hwy 20 East to Powell Butte Highway North to Alfalfa Market Road East. Alfalfa Market turns into Willard Road, which turns into Reservoir Road, which intersects South Millican Road, also signed as George Millican Road. That intersection is "Four Corners" and is the center of Millican Plateau. |

What Mr.DS said, unfortunately.
Last winter was easy until February or so, lots of riding, Cline Butte, Alfalfa, and parts east. This winter I can't even get out of town on the orange bike. But who knows, January might lighten up...My buddy James and I went to Mattawa last weekend, what a haul. Only got one up on Smugmug so far... it was fun in the lower elevations, and fun for awhile in the higher elevations...

Wait, I'm thinking Millican as in the defunct town that once had a 100% homicide rate. |

Second winter in Bend for me, but first with the dual sport. I've been riding a bit, but have been too nervous about ice to go far.
Thanks for the Ford Rd tip, no more sitting on hwy 20 for me.

Good luck finding any off road riding that is not covered in snow. Run your PSI as low as you are comfortable. It will give you marginally more traction.
