The Gaerne boots are supposed to be wider then most other boots and more comfortable right out the box.

I have a pair of GX-1s. They are relatively easy to walk in and they fit my EE foot very well. I think they kept me from breaking a leg when I did my endo last fall.

I've found this to be the case.

I think MikeHBN had the TCX's and liked them, but like you said I just wanted something with a little better protection. For the typical local dual sport riding we do I can deal with wet feet. When I'm in the market for a boot to wear on longer trips I'll keep the TCX's in mind. Hoping to do some long rides on the Strom this year and dry feet would be nice on an all day ride.

I'd second that...To a point

If anyone tests boots and gear to the fullest it is XC and myself. I have owned two pairs of TCX Infitinties. The first pair wore out after 2 years and nearly 40k mi so I warrantied them for a second pair. That pair lasted me through another 30k+, one relationship and countless rainstorms. They have began to leak under searious rain so I picked up a pair of Sidi's on FM for $100. They have kept my feet dry but the protection and ease of on/off makes the TCX a serious boot for serious riders (at a serious cost).

I'll have to check out those Gaernes when you get them Kev; been thinking about getting a pair of NON-waterproof boots for the RTW trip. Reasoning being that I will inevitably be crossing streams and rivers that ARE deeper than my boots are tall and there's nothing worse than a waterproof boot getting soaking wet on the inside as it takes forever to dry it out.

Goretex socks are the shit. Well tested many times beginning with Kevin's TWVT ride a few years ago. I was wearing my new Alpine stars tech 3s and attempted to waterproof them....lamely. After the fucking ARK floated by, I thought the waterproofing had worked, but upon taking the boots off in Marlinton the water poured out of the boots.... but my feet were dry and toasty in my goretex socks.
