The guy that did it is the president of a RE development company. This is a small building where everyone kind of knows everybody. If he didn't do right by me, I would make his life difficult. My company is part owner of the building and my boss is an attorney, so we would have some fun. Very worst case scenario is that he disappears and my insurance covers it. I use USAA and they've always been very cooperative. Maybe I'll call them just so they know what's up.

Anyhoo, as stated, I will keep everyone updated.

Definitely call your insurance company, for a couple reasons. First, USAA is great insurance! I deal with about dozens of insurance companies in my line of work (property damage) and USAA is one of the best to deal with, by a huge margin. Second, your policy probably has some sort of "uninsured motorist" clause in there, which means USAA will in all likelihood pay for the damage and then mitigate against the guilty party, even if he isn't "uninsured." And trust me when I say that USAA has some big-dog attorneys who will make the other guy's life a living hell.

Have you verified that the other indivdiudal has valid auto insurance and a drivers license?

You would be surprised at what you might find depending on the individual.

Take photos of the scene, bike and the car carefully for resolution should the issue take a turn for the worse.

With previous situations I've been involved in I use a smart phone to take photos of their DL, insurance card, license plate, scene and if necessary hit the record button.

I know. If it had been the other way around, I would have done the same though. I once forced an elderly couple to take my information after I bumped their car and broke my headlight on my car and did no damage to theirs. I told them to contact me if they noticed any problems after the fact.

IMO, though, he shoulda had the check payable to you instead of the dealer.

When I had a VFR, it was knocked over twice. Both time insurance took care of it. I'm not sure as to why you would not let them handle it. That's why we pay for it
