The GS has been BMW's best seller for years now. So it's only logical to see more of them on the used market.

What dirt passes are you fixing to ride on your R?

I bought a low mileage (7.5K) 2010 R1200R a couple of months ago which I really like. It came with an uninstalled BMW flyscreen. After riding it without for a thousand miles or so I installed the flyscreen. The noise and buffeting are much worse than with nothing and it offers minimal protection. After a couple hundred miles I'm taking it back off. I just don't like the looks of the aftermarket screens. The only thing I don't like are the wide handlebars. I also have a 78 R100S and like those narrower bars much more. I wonder if anyone has changed the bars out.

Right now the bike has an OEM tall bracket with avery tall CEE Bailey I'd possibly be willing to do some swapping with.

Damn! That's sexy, glad it's in my garage

Not sure if this is the right category Or not but looking at buying a 2002 r1150r with 64000 km. Is this to many km? Is there a lot of expensive maintenance With these bikes? This guy wants 5200 bucks for it. Has abs, bags, a full screen. Any help is appreciated.

maintenance is generally a higher cost on a BMW.

That's what, around 6400KM or 4000 miles per year? It's a bike that's been ridden regularly, that's for sure. If possible, see if the seller has any maintenance records. That mileage isn't out of the question at all. However, if the seller wasn't current on maintenance, then you may be looking at putting a few bucks into it.

There is regular maintenance required. You'll need to do valve adjustments and throttle body sync's as well as brake maintenance, etc. However, it's not that tough nor spendy. Do you work on bikes yourself, or do you pay someone else to do it? I don't care where you go, that's going to cost $$'s. It's stuff you can do yourself with a manual and some basic tools.

Used BMW Oilheads are cheap as chips these days. I'd try to work the seller down to a figure under $5K.

]We search the vin and came up with regular scheduled maintenance records which thrilled me. It turns out the 36000 mile inspection is due. That is a 500 tab. I will try and use that to help lower the cost of the bike. Anyway I think I'm going to be a proud owner of a r1150r.

500 off for the service and 500 off because it is winter. That would be my offer.

When I bought my 2010 R1200R a couple of months ago with 7.5K miles on it the service light was on. It already had the 6K service done but it had been more than a year ago so the light was on. Since it was still in warranty for a few months I took it in for service at the dealer. They charged me $370 to change all the fluids and turn the light off. They wanted another $110 to flush the brake fluid but I turned that down and did it myself. I think all routine service is pretty straight forward but not resetting that service reminder. That takes $350 GS-911 code reader. You could pay for that with the money you save or just put up with that. This is the best bike I've ever owned. Light years ahead of my 78 R100s.
