F800GS owners.......A Penny for your thoughts...

2009 w/ 31,000 miles. Year round daily driver. About half-way into her third set of tires.

Only regret is not having such a bike when I lived in Oregon (wasn't invented yet, but an R80 G/S would have been the ticket).

Just under 50K on mine. Don't get me wrong, there's always room for improvement and I've had some mechanical problems. I still haven't ridden another bike that is as good "all around"* as this though. I'm constantly amazed by how marginal the advantages of bikes dedicated to one particular task are over the F8, relative to how massive a sacrifice they make in the other areas.

* I want something I can:
Filter like a loon through city traffic on.
Fit sportstouring tyres to and trouble the sportsbikes on a track.
Fit knobblies to and go greenlaning or even get round an Enduro on.
Ride for 8 hours at a time without feeling any more fatigued than if I'd done the journey in the car.
Carry an 8' Christmas tree and/or a week of shopping on it.

The usual answer of course would be to own several bikes, but the F8 means I don't need to.

I would have to agree with a lot of the comments about loving the bike, but there is always room for improvement. I have over 50k kms on mine now and zero issues other than a stator failing. Great machine that can handle a wide variety of riding situations. Not sure there is another bike out there than can do more better.

The shipper dropped off my 2009 800GS last night at 10:00. It is yellow and has only 2400 miles. Did my title work today. Weather is calling for 69 degrees here on Saturday in the mountains. Looks like I'll be out for a test ride. Yeeeha!

I have a 2010 with about 8K on it. Great for twisty highways, forest and fire roads. With the stock tires, loaded Jesse side and top cases- I didn't like it in soft sand atv trails in Wisconsin. Other than that, I wouldn't switch to anything else.

Like most on here I think good bike but suspensioon needs to be sorted for the um Larger Rider? I ride like Snowy, what you guys in the US call Jeep/Fire Trails and have gone everywhere my Jeep 4x4 has gone. Single rider but about 115kg or 250+ pounds. Quite frankly I owned a 2002 F650 GS Dakar and rode that everwhere I have gone with the 800, for the $5000 more I paid upfront and suspension adjustments required since should have just got the updated (Damn near the Same) G650GS Sertao.

Don't get me wrong like everyone else there is something quite mystical about the 800 and I wouldn't swap it now I have it but time again I'm not so convinced I'd buy it.

PS: Odometer is 3600ish klm, 75% off road.

I'm at 14,000 miles on my 2012 Trophy edition. Once I sorted out the luggage, windscreen and suspension I couldn't be happier. Oh yeah, for what it's worth I'm 5'7" with a 31" inseam.

I have a 2011 GS 800. Only issue is motor size like others have stated. I dream of upgrading to a 1200..

Interesting...I just sold a 2005 1200GS and bought an 09 800GS. It has most of the farkles I would add. At 6'5" I will add bar risers and lower pegs but after my first 150 miles ride Saturday I think this is the best bike I have owned for the way I now ride. I don't tour but mostly day ride here in the mountains which can include gravel roads. After spending the afternoon on it I was totally comfortable at the end of the ride. I went from an R1100S to the 1200GS. The S was so bad with the forward leaning ride position I thought the big GS was a great solution. I find I like the lighter, more nimble 800GS. We'll see how I feel after living with it a while but so far I am pleased. I will add I have probably owned 45-50 bikes and usually keep around a half dozen around at a time.
