Thank to Lilolita and crew for the great ride today, even if I did start off somewhat sideways.
Special double thank to Dimitri for saving my day, I owe you a big bottle of something tasty and alcoholic...

Just as I'd arrived at Seven Hipsters, I felt a rhythmic clunk in my bike. Upon inspection, the wheel had all sorts of play at 12/6 and 3/9. I instantly assumed the final drive big bearing had failed (its got 104k miles and I had disassembled the unit not long ago for inspection and a new seal) and I was making plans to get it brought down from Probblydense to the garage I keep a spare FD at. Dimitri suspected loose wheel bolts, an idea which I dismissed at first. And then I checked and all four weren't even finger tight.

OOPS.

Normally, I zap the bolts home with an impact wrench and make sure they're snug with a breaker bar and socket. I don't recall doing that on New Year's Eve when I installed the wheel, so I suspect I did not do so. Dimitri left and returned very shortly with a tool (my toolkit is on the desk in front of me, where it does the most good when I'm not home) and put a full turn on each bolt.

The final drive hadn't failed.

This is the part of the ride where we stand around and take pictures of us taking pictures of our motorcycles. In a cemetery.

I can probably crop this one into a decent shot.

Lilolita mugging for the camera.

Roger Williams, on a hill overlooking the city. His hand is stretched out to the state house as if to say "What the hell have you done with the place? It was nice when I gave it to you!"

Turtledub not mugging for the camera.

The Fox Point Hurricane Barrier. It appears to work, who knew...

I need this.

Great folks, great ride, great food.

Looks like a great time, but the weather was certainly disappointing. I rode down to the shore area to work on the Brit Jam prize motorcycle, hoping for a dry ride home. Not to be, as it was even more misty on the way back. Even managed to get pulled over by Clinton's finest, and got by with a warning. They were going to ticket me for waiting in the intersection (under a green light) to turn left while traffic cleared, and then making the turn when the other side got the red light. Potential infraction, running a red light. Never heard of that scam before .

Providence Ride

Thanks to Lilolita and Cheesebot for leading us around the fair city of Providence.
We hit all the scenic locations, some I didn't get pictures of...
like the capital, yacht clubs, and Roger Williams park...

My favorite spot was the city overlook park....
and Trinity Pub....

We had a nice (damp) ride around the Newport area today. I didn't keep track of the mileage, but I burned about 7 gallons of gas. That puts me at around 280 miles for the day. This is the only picture I got today. It was taken after the ride when the fog wasn't so thick.

The one below was taken before the ride, kind of cool I suppose.
