I've always just put the front tire against a tree and beat it back. It doesn't take as much as it would seem to twist them.

All typos and misspellings blamed on my phone.

Well started tearing apart my buddies '01 XR650R tonight, the motor on it appeared to be ran w/o oil (cam shaft was ground among other things). Sad to see the bike having to be parted out as it was in great condition with just above 3000 miles, but to rebuild the motor would cost just too much $

Anyone know what parts (if any) from a XR650R would move over to a 98 XR250R?

Wow the pic is kinda nuts Mr freak.

I ordered a manual, and waiting for it to show up. Can you guy's tell me if this snap ring on the counter shaft just holds the seal in place? The seal is weeping a bit and I would like to replace it while I'm putting a new front sprocket on.

Because I know you boys like pitchers I'll post a couple

Me too, just sold my 2000 yesterday. I'm hanging onto my Corbin seat just in case I buy another one. Hurt my ankle really bad in October and absolutely couldn't start the thing.

I'm drooling over the 520RS Beta right now, can't afford it, but I want it.

This doesn't look like the Rio Puerco Chris. Do share the location

That clip was all I pulled when changing out my counter shaft seal

If I remember correctly it just holds the seal in place and nothing else. I think I popped out the old seal with a small flat blade screw driver. I put a little grease on the new seal and pushed it in to place and reset the clip. I did it so quickly that I never really thought much about doing it.
Hope this helps

Good luck

Recommendation on fork and shock springs

I am replacing the factory springs on my XRR to suit my 240lbs. I am a novice (44 yr old) dirt rider. Any recommendations on going with Race Tech or Eibach, or any other band? The prices seem comparable.
Thank you.

That clip is only holding the seal. Pull it with a pair of snap ring pliers and then pull the seal. Just replaced mine last week.

Awesome riding RF!
Surely you know that you, after having sold it, are going to miss it sometime, if not sooner than later.
If you've got space for it, and won't miss the few grand they go for in your locale, then maybe stash it?

Loctite?

Thanks for the suggestions --
I purchased the harder bolts for the right foot peg.
I also checked the kick start lever bolt --- very loose (just like you guys predicted).

Is it common practice to use loctite on these 3 bolts? If so, which type?

I'd use red on all of those.

Funny:

I went for a ride around my buddies neighborhood on his studded up WR450 that he wants me to buy. There was about 4-6" of snow on packed snow roads. I got a lot of WTF looks while drifting around corners.

If I want a heavy bike I'll keep the XRR and buy another 2-smoke for the trails. Street legal is nice (XRR is "legal") but you give up so much with a 4-stroke here. My buddy doesn't like to hear that since he has a 530 Christini, Husaburg 570, and this WR450. I can't complain, he's letting me ride it this weekend.

If you like that stuff RideFreak, you should swing on buy our neck of the woods. I'll show you a few good trails. I enjoyed NM and the desert / rock riding. Way different then we have here!
