I dug and dug, looking for info on XLR600/650 hybrid engines, found your thread on TT, followed over here, and no new news! Get on it man!
![]() I think I stumbled on the original thread on TT, because I was searching for info on using a 650L head on an XL600R.... I know bassackwards. But I was just keeping my options open, since my frame/suspension is already modified, so carb placement isn't an issue. Going to follow your lead and start a thread over here, seeing more interest. Good luck with your build, I'm following. Later on, TR |

It will work in reverse as well. I built a 2000 plated XR600 using an '84 XL600 bottom end, XR650L cylinder and the 2000 XR600 head. The original engine was blown up; the only things usable were the head, transmission and outer engine covers. The XR600 and XR650L heads are the same with one important difference (besides the air injector holes) the 650L has a larger combustion chamber than the 600.

Hi Mr. Brucifer!
What color (RAL number) has the paint for painting the frame of your bike? It is OEM HONDA color? I have to paint the frame in the near future and I can't choose a color: black or red. Thank you. |

The color that's on there now was matched up at the powder coater, I don't know what the number is. But if you're speaking of the factory paint code originally on the frame, I'll see if I can dig it up for you. I believe I took a pic of the code decal before the powder coating.

Hello folks! Been a while but have some forward movement.
Okay, finally pulled the forks apart and cleaned them out and reassembled with new seals. ![]() Fit them into the triples and bolted on new fork guards with new bolts. ![]() I scored a set of CR wheels from my neighbor with dual sport tires already installed. The fronts like new--the back, not so much. Installed the wheel assembly but the axle came up short. ![]() Here you can see it doesn't quite make it through. ![]() So, I took the spacer from the other side....... ![]() .......and had my machinest take 5/8" off.

Bruce,
You do know that the CRF R and X axles are different don't you? The X is cut away for the Odo drive where as the R is not. Looks like you have a R axle.

He also made me a spacer for the swingarm linkage. See the shiny piece to the left.
![]() Here it is with the front end on for good. The swingarm is on temporarily while I figure out where I'm going to route the shocks remote reservoir and hose.

It's all good, Steve. The axle's squared away now and I'm going to run an aftermarket speedo like a Vapor or something, so I'm not concerned about a speedo drive.

Great build report. I watch with great interest since my winter project dream list is USD forks and rear disc. I have already scrounged the pieces necessary, just lack the ambition and opportunity. I have a set of 94 CR125 forks I intend to use. Did you change spring rate?
Keep up the good work and documentation, maybe you will help motivate me |

The springs that are in the forks now are Eibachs but I don't recall the number on them. I'm gonna go with what's there for now and change later if need be.The shock I'm planning on having built specifically for this bike. I'm going to try out a local guy who says he'll give me the same deal as Race Tech only shipping charges won't be involved. Plus, being local will be nice if there's fine tuning to be done--which there probably will.
