Not much updates because not much new happening. I had to go to Vegas this week to pick up some items from a family member who is moving. On the way down and back in the OSR chase van, we did spy some areas I wish I could take the Subaru (or SL350) out for some "testing and training!"
Just amazing country...makes the sprinter look tiny.. ![]() I've ridden 95 in and out of Vegas several times. There are several dirt roads that lead off the Hwy just south of Beatty that have always caught my eye. I've never had the pleasure of riding in this area or in Death Valley, but I'd sure like to...looks like a future trip needs to be planned This is one of those roads.... ![]() Currently the Subaru is running Toyo Open Country A/T's because Robby Gordon uses them ![]() Ok, that's not really the reason, I've used those tires for years and probably several hundred thousand miles and have never had issues with them. They are pretty spendy though. I think I mentioned that I plan on running General Tire Grabber's for the race, because they are the title sponsor and are giving racers a great deal on them....about half the cost as the Toyo's I'm just waiting for the production run to be done for my size tires and then I'll probably pick them up. I did find this cool old sign that was once on the wall of a garage, but now is the only part of the wall still standing just off of Hwy 95 in Nevada and thought I send General Tire some love for their support of the sport and us racers ![]() ![]() Off topic, but, I did get to put chains on the sprinter for the first time coming over the pass into Eugene, Oregon earlier today. She did pretty good in the snow...especially loaded down with all the crap I picked up in Vegas... ![]() We finally got home about two hours ago and as we pulled up I saw this beautiful sight in front of my house.... ![]() ![]() Ray was able to squeeze in some time and get started on the cage ![]() I haven't even had a chance to talk to him about it yet..but it looks like it is just bolted in for now so he can drop it down to weld up the halo and get it as tight to the roof line as possible. Obviously, the cage is just getting started but.... There's something about curved metal tubes welded together inside a car that just changes it completely. This little grocery getter is finally going to start looking like a proper race car! Oh yeah...Besides for not losing my shirt at Pai Gow, and seeing the Cirque show, The Beatles "Love," with my wife and daughter, I also picked up our racing suits and 5-point harnesses from Butch's Speed Shop in Vegas! Stay tuned for more......

I went over to Ray's shop today for some quick cage work. The goal was to figure out how the main hoop would be attached to the car. It is being bolted in with a plate on either side of the body. With the Unibody, things get a little interesting. When its done, I promise to do a proper write-up on the cage.
But for today, Ray measured ![]() ...and cut ![]() and shaped... ![]() and he took the time explaining to me what he was doing. Ray is taking great care to build us one hell of a cage. It will exceed the NASA requirements (and NORRA) and will be a work of art. I would wager it will be nicer than any cage ever put into a 1997 Legacy Outback I'm sure there have been a couple ![]() He is having some of the plates made up and he showed me the gussets that will be going on...they are going to be hard-core for sure. Here is a look at how it meets the rear strut towers ![]() Ray has bought off on our expedition vehicle concept and is building a cage that will not only be uber safe..but is also allowing for a lot of room for future improvements. Including tool boxes and fuel cell. We may not have time to put all of the goodies we are planning for this car in by the M1K, but he is building the cage so that there will be room for it.
