Not so sunny sunday here
Went today for a ride with some quad mates
Only thumpers here.

Began muddy as you can notice

Then snowy

Got stuck behind the first 2WD and went back
We noticed also the second one have the rear right flat

Well, even the 4WD didnt made it. Evil icy steep slope


Happy to be back home at the end of the day
The little LRP and his new rear tire (Michelin T63 120/80-18) did well

checking in...with a question about the drive chain

hi guys :-) i got mine yesterday. Most of the goodies already ordered.

I dunno where i'm going to find 10W30 - MOTUL or Honda, i doubt whether the Honda dealers will have it, the synthetic.

The chain - DID 520VF...is not in the DID 2012 catalog. (ok, it's the USA catalog, but...)
google finds only a few references to it, one for the CBR250R, the rickramsey site, the owners manual, and one in Thai language.

I want a 43 tooth sprocket, so i suppose i need 2 or 4 more links. That's my first question - 2 or 4? i guess 4 would use up most of the axle adjustment,...so would 2 more links be enough?

So, if this chain is not listed in the catalog, then what is the alternative? And would the alternative links / master link be compatible?
Does the chain have a clip type master link? (i don't want to go out now to check, but i guess it does - surely they wouldn't have put an endless chain / riveted chain on this bike.)

I really don't want to use a 13 tooth front sprocket. I'd rather get the Renthal alloy sprocket and see how long it lasts.

All I have seen is the 10-40. So that's what I put in per dealer. You gonna run synthetic?

Yes. Of course. Or at least Motul semi-synthetic.
I see that Motul 5100 does come in a lot of different grades - just a matter of finding it.
10W40, i wouldn't mind.

No, 13 tooth front sprocket is too small, causes much quicker chain wear. 14 is the limit.

Only reason I ask is that the dealer told me it causes clutch problems.

^^Oh. ok. i thought i'd read somewhere that it was bad for the shaft bearing.

i wish i could sort out where to get chain links.

Something kinda funny, after I posted what the dealer had told me I did some searching on oil and holy cow it's a very controversial topic. I had no idea hahahahaha! Anyway, what I read and seamed more convincing to me was that synthetic was indeed better in the engine. Most references on thumpers not using it were in relation to extreme performance engines with excessive heat. Even then, it was at best speculative I think. So, sorry for passing on bunk info!

Well it's true, oil can be quite controversial on most threads and it's not unusual to go into 100 plus post on it. I would say, anyone who wants to find out all about OIL should just go to the Search button and have at it. Oh, by the way, I use Shell Rotella T Synthetic in my bikes, why, because if I can get it a WalMart for $20.00 for four quarts its got to be good.

For 1.5 liter every 12'000km, I wouldnt bother to pay the price for the best one can buy
As owner manual says, check it isnt "energy concerving" oil. Thats because it contains additives that may lead to clutch slipping.
