Ride Tassie from Perth - logistics

We are thinking about riding Tassie next summer. Starting to think about the logistics. Any comments or ideas would be very welcome.

Options we have considered are:

Fly to Tassie, hire a bike there. Could be the easiest and one of the cheaper options, as long as our camping gears fits on the hire bike.

Transport our bike fully loaded to Melbourne, ferry to Tassie. Not sure of cost yet, but at least we know the bike and gear are good to go.

Ride to Melbourne, my partner flys there. Then on the ferry. Probably lose say four days each way on the Nullabor, which I have seen a couple of times already.

Thoughts?

Sooray has just done the ride from Tassie to Perth, ship back deal with her KL250 Super Sherpa.

Shipping cost about $800 if you crate it, $1300 (I think) if container or they do a pick up & crate job she said.

Do you like sleeping on ferrys? Can result in bleary eys. Ambo friends tell me that a high'ish number of people from the land of long straights come to grief on their 1st day off the ferry.

If it was me I'd fly all the way & hire locally.

They look OK, just have to check how big the panniers are. We have packing down pat for mine, but the MTD boxes are quite big.

We don't know about our high seas worthiness yet...we can go south in daytime I think, return is night. Who needs sleep anyway? I can sleep on planes OK. Maybe send the bike solo?
