Let's stop before it starts.
On cbr250.net forum, there is a thread on doing the oil change, nice photos and all...it turned into a heated argument about oil, quite an absurd one too. btw, the rear sprocket... the Renthal sprockets listed on ebay for CRF250L, i think they are actually CRF250R sprockets - in the pic (which is not very clear and cannot be enlarged) the bolt holes appear to have the countersink (instead of the flat recess that the CRF250L sprocket should have.) And the Renthal website does not list CRF250L. The holes could be drilled out to 10 mm, if there is enough space, but WTH, why are there no sprockets available? I was a bit surprised to see that the Honda parts manual only has the stock 14 and 40 sprockets; usually you get alternative / different size OEM sprockets. I'm waiting for a local dealer to call me back about oil filters and gaskets - like do they have stock or how long would it take to get them. (Their system not working or something.) I explained to him that the CRF250L and the CBR250R have the same motor, so he could search it either way. As usual, i know more about it than the dealer. ![]()

Thanks, i'll check it out now.
What did you do about the chain? (Please see my earlier posts. DID 520 VF not listed in DID catalog, google turns up nothing.) Here is a very good parts look-up facility: http://www.hondapartshouse.com/oempa...f250l-ac-parts

yes thats right - the first rear sprocket they sent me was shipped without the countersink - I called and he sent a new one properly drilled out immediatly (basically an oops) . Oh and btw, the XR650L sprocket bolts work.

When I get around to ordering all my parts (getting c/c paid down first) I think these guys have a lot to offer.
http://www.crfsonly.com/catalog/prod...oducts_id/4743 I still need to decide on what gearing to go with. If the lower chain guide was not an issue I think I would just put a 50 on the rear and leave the front a 14. I am currently thinking of going with a 13/45 combo. |

Hardly surprising, that forum smells like a Junior High locker room. I've been on it since 2011 and only venture in there when I'm bored.

If your obsessed with knowing how the oil you chose is doing you can spend $25 and have it analyzed here:
http://www.blackstone-labs.com I send in the oil from my Husaberg regularly, but I also push the envelope with the miles I put on that high performance engine's oil in my travels, sometimes doubling recommended intervals out of pure necessity. While the Husa does have a wet clutch and calls for full synthetic, I won't be spending the cash for it on the Honda as I don't think it really is going to matter in the long run, there's too many Honda's in the world that have many miles using whatever standard oil is around and lets face it, this engine isn't high performance. Maybe I'll try a semi-synthetic to see if it will help the shifting be smoother, after we get plenty of miles to wear in the engine but maybe not... It's a Honda, just ride it. ![]() ![]()

Previously, I exclusively used Easter Timber Rattlesnake Oil, harvested only from serpents employed during religious snake-handling ceremonies in Appalachia. Croatalus horridus, the timber rattler, when harvested from the free range, produces unsurpassed base oil stocks. These excellent base stocks are further, miraculously enhanced during the religious ceremonies.
![]() ![]() Unfortunately, the cost of collecting, handling, and harvesting these serpents has became prohibitive, so I switched to 15W/40 motor oil. The diesel motor oil is doing an excellent job for me, so I intend to keep using it. ![]() Spud
