Impressive stage for Barreda

Great day for Barreda in the ninth stage of the Dakar Rally. The spanish rider from Castellón, thanks to his victory in the previous stage, was responsible for opening the track for a distance of 593 kms. between the Argentine cities of San Miguel de Tucuman and Cordoba. The rider of Husqvarna by Speedbrain has done an excellent navigation, getting alienate most of its rivals despite having had many difficulties in the last few miles due to excessive wear your rear tire.
A second place finish in stage highly valued by Husqvarna rider.

Joan Barreda: "A very difficult stage, very long. 595 kilometers opening track is difficult. I've Got no rear tire completely flat, so that the second part of the special I found it very difficult to control the bike. Well, is important to have sailed this stage, sorry for a little mistake before neutralization that lost me three minutes, but I'm satisfied with my performance today because I have yielded just four minutes to Despres opening track for almost 6 hours of racing. Pity the rear tyre, it has made me lose a lot of time at the end. "

Helder is becoming consistent, didn't run out of fuel today, but is relying on other people's inconsistency I believe

I thought the same with the photo I was given of Cyril changing the engine after Stage 8. It showed up all over the place, even with watermarks from other news sites in SA.



I figured that will all the unattributed stuff I've used, it's just payback.

Talk about bad timing... but this past weekend was the only time that worked (in the real world) for me.

Troy, in case you hadn't heard details of David Bensadoun's Desert Warrior 3 BMW engine failure after only 34km of racing:

"...Bensadoun, a Montreal resident and president of Aldo shoes... entered the Dakar for the first time last year, and drove a custom-built 4x4 in the car class to become the only Canadian ever to finish the race on four wheels, with Patrick Beaulé navigating in the co-driver’s seat (Pat is riding KTM 450RR # 154 in this year's event).

This year, his luck ran out on the first Sunday, 20 kilometres into the second day of this year’s race, when all four wheels of his car suddenly locked up in the sand at 140 kilometres per hour.

“It was quite an adventure just to get the car under control,” he said a day later by phone.

In the co-driver’s seat this time was Paul Round, who had built the Desert Warrior 3 vehicle, the latest version of the successful rally car he’s been refining over 15 years of Dakar racing, but things didn’t look good. The engine, a six-cylinder turbo diesel from a BMW X5, had seized, and they suspected a piston had failed, which would be unrepairable in the field.

Desperate to continue, they got 10 spectators to push them and managing to unstick the engine, get it restarted to go 500 metres farther before the connecting rods snapped and pierced through the block.

“All the locals came running up. They saw all the smoke coming out of the engine. One of them looked at me and said ‘finito?’ And I said ‘finito.’” A later engine teardown would confirm that one of the pistons was toasted.

But Bensadoun is already looking to next year’s Dakar with further upgrades to the car.

“We’ve got to get the car to be bulletproof,” he says.
