Cyril appears to me as the consumate professional that allows for glimpses into the man behind the goggles through his home and training videos which all come across to me as a personable guys who happens to be very focused and serious about what he does for a living.

I never bought into the mudgate hate as I like to think I saw it for what it was, a guy who for once, let a bit of panic about losing too much time take over his emotions. It's happened to the best. To date, even after seeing the video footage numerous times, I won't pretend to think I know what transpired between Despres and Goncalves. Paulo himself didn't seem to chuffed after that incident, so why should anyone else be.

I think he would be ideal for HRC and a huge coup if they are able to lure him away from KTM. He would help development and I see it as a respect earning move as I'm sure, proving what he already has in bike, could say the word and open a door at Mini. For Cyril to make such a bold move to HRC relatively late in his riding career shows me that he loves riding and prioritizes that over the results of it all.

This Dakar is showing its brutal uncaring side... Just when Casteu starts to look good again, he is plagued by mechanicals

If they can talk - it's all good. Daddy was giving child first "swimming lessons" is all. That's what the child was talking about....crate, sitting in pee? No....pool and water!!!

Folks - excuse my ignorance. Is there any benefit to having Faria off the front with CdP running right behind? I don't believe there's any way for them to communicate, so I think not unless Faria is better with nav (and I doubt he is), correct?

I'm trying to understand the benefits, or lack thereof, of having your teammate in such close proximity... other than if CdP were to break down, obviously.

Without some form of communications I'm not sure I see it.

I've love to be a fly on the wall when they're planning strategy tonight.

Hey Drif10

When I go the FR3 and FR4 links you have posted for Safari users and click on them it opens a new window and then opens iTunes with some funky numbers listed as a title in my songs list. It squelches five times and nothing ever loads into the empty Safari window.

When I cut and paste into a new window it tells me that it can't find the server.

I held off asking for a week now hoping I would eventually figure it out, but I can' t. Any ideas.

I don't understand the hate either.

If anything, I've found CDP to be a bit like Sebastian Loeb in WRC. A marvel to witness but rather boring after so many years of dominance. Though CDP has a had a better challenger in Coma than perhaps Mikko Hirvonen to Loeb.

But CDP's challenges this year has made it quite interesting indeed.

Yeah this is my biggest come down so far this year, at least outside of the truly tragic realm.

Cyril Depres

It was a good day with lots of attacking and lots of turns. It would have been impossible for me to do well without my trainer, who makes me work on a bicycle year-round, or without my Michelin tyres. Thanks to them for making my muscles strong and my tyres sturdy. When I get back to the bivouac, I'll be able to check this stage on my list. I knew that it would be physically demanding, that I'd have to give it my all. I've got blisters on my feet and my hands are sore, but I had to bang my fist on the table to say: "Hey, I'm here!". Ruben and I are racing well for the team, he's in good shape and that's the most important thing right now.

Ruben Faria

A very difficult stage. 851 km is a very long way to go. We went at 90% inside the forest, I don't know how many turns we had to negotiate today. There was a lot of dust, I went at my own pace to avoid taking risks. I really wanted to make it to the finish of this special. I'm keeping my feet on the ground: I'm here to help Cyril win his fifth Dakar, and that's what I'm going to do.
