Wicked Lane splitting in NJ-Request link enclosed

Fellow NJ riders, please take the time to click on the link and take a few minutes to petition the Governor to allow lane sharing and filtering in NJ. A few minutes of your time may impact many riders. I listed safety and less congestion as my primary factors. What have you got to lose?

Hope this isn't construed as SPAM. I have no financial gain in this.

The following link gives reasonable facts and statistics.

Ron, I sent a message, too. I kept my request to low speed situations, though. Intersections and heavy traffic. I think it would really help, if we can get past some of the driver resentment.

Sent message - used my bros address. But I worked / will work again in NJ/NYC and sometimes commute via moto. When I used to commute into NYC, I never had a problem w/ LEO while splitting. NYPD Hiway 1 will bust ur balls/give U a tix (luckily I never came across them), but local precinct popo didn't give 2 shytes. But YMMV

I setup a blog on the topic, so feel free to use it if it helps. http://www.lanesharingworks.com or http://www.legalizelanesplitting.com, both redirect to it. I'm pricing up bumperstickers right now... damn things aren't cheap.

I may be able to help out with the bumper stickers. Do you have a copy of the artwork? Let me know.

I've had people swing fists at me when LEGALLY passing stopped cars on the right to turn right. Good luck not getting rammed by some NJ nut-job even if it is legal!

Until the "I'll kill you" attitude is eliminated, we are all still fighting a perception battle. Don't hate me because my means of transportation is more nimble than yours...

Your best bet is to make sure your license plate is clearly visible to all motorists & traffic cameras & obey all of the traffic laws

Now, that's the problem in a nutshell, and why you probably are wasting your time getting legislation passed to allow it in NJ, one of the most densely populated areas in the USA. Instead, just follow some reasonable guidelines, and you will be able to get away with years of lane splitting without a ticket:

1. Make sure there is no police officer or police vehicle around when you do it. Those are usually the cars with the lights on top!

2. Go to the front of the line only when the traffic is stopped, watching out for road rage door openers when you do it.

3. Only lane "adjust" on highways when the traffic is stopped or only going a few mph. As the speed picks up, get back in line.

4. If you cut to the front of the line at a light, "get out of Dodge" quickly when the light changes. Out of sight, out of mind.

5. Don't try to understand the drivers of cars. They are brain dead. .And will try and kill you if they can.

6. If you lane split and someone gets mad, don't stop at the next light, or discuss the matter with the red-faced one. Again, "get out of Dodge".

7. Make the lane splitting look like you are just changing lanes to avoid an accident.

8. If stopped by an officer of the law, again explain that you were just trying to avoid a collision. And include the PBA card with your license and registration!

Those simple rules have worked for 45 years. If I get a ticket now, I'd consider it a decent price to pay for all that time saved.

Anyone else have a suggestion?

Doc U have the right info.

I was stopped once while splitting on the PIP entry to the GWB. PA cop took my info, looked at license, said ur old enough to know better

As he's walking away, I said are U gonna give me a tix?

He said give me one good reason why I shouldn't

I said a retired PA cops name, who I used to work with. The Cop turned around, didn't say a word & handed me back my info.

Knowing someone Priceless
