Motporaptor,
Your bike looks great...especially in the air. Is that the Wunderlich beak you have on there? Carbon or black? Also, what did you do to the top of the D3 screen? I just put one on (thanks seasider) and haven't really had much chance to test out the different positions due to winter being all over the ground here in Calgary. You must have been really laying her down around the corners to get an elbow down instead of the knee... ![]() obligatory pic Calgary Bike show Friday Jan 4th, 2013. 3 degrees Celcius, main roads bare, side roads and parking lots were variable with up to 5 inches of crap packed down... Really fun ride. As I got closer to the show the looks from those with 4 doors and heat changed from WTF to jealousy.

Calgary06,
Thanks. Yes, that is the Wunderlich beak I spray painted the aluminum mounting piece it comes with black. The D3 screen at it's highest/forward position worked great but I still had some uncomfortable buffeting around 80 mph. So I got a truck mudflap from the auto parts store, cut it down and bolted it in place to give me another inch of height, which solved the problem. The hand guards are also cut up garbage can lids which keep the weather off really well. As far as the elbow down... it was elbow, leg, shoulder and face down in the mud after getting overconfident. I mounted my Denali lights off the sides of the D3 and knew they were a little vulnerable and sure enough, one snapped off. Repairs with zip ties in the field worked and I epoxied the screen back together yesterday so it is good as knew... but battle scarred. Cheers, Motoraptor |

Thanks.
Any closer pics of your light mounts (and fix)? Anything you would change with regards to their location if you were to do it again? Calgary06

![]() Here is a front view. I thought about mounting them just inside the hand guards, but I like the way they look and work right where they are. Subsequent drops didn't trouble the fairing mounted location so it may have been the severity of the first off. I can send some fix pics later directly if you like, so we don't hijack the thread. In keeping with the spirit of the thread, I'll add another f800gs pic. This is my friend showing how it is properly done on a bike that is basically stock.

No - neither do I. But we're not going for frequent flyer miles. Just a spirited weekend where we wanted to test, and sometimes exceed, the capabilities of our bikes.
So... I know glamour shots are the norm, but I thought I'd share the darker but still interesting side of these shenanigans. Bottomed out. Below is a shot of the suspension closed up from the impact. Check out the proximity of the skid-plate to the ground. And more impressive/sad is the condition of the front tire. I thought lowering the pressure to 29psi would aid traction in the flat sections, and it did, but it couldn't manage the impact of such a heavy bike descending from the sky. ![]() And if you want to fly, at first you must fall. My friend gets caught out in a rutted mud section. Both he and the bike came out of this UNSCATHED. He was back on the track 30 seconds later. We both learned some lessons and gained some confidence to go with the sore muscles and scratched paint.
