Thanks for the offer, but I am leading a small group across the Pony Express Trail Utah, Nevada during that timeline. I have a little DRZ 400 for that and It still to big a bike for there. I think you have the perfect bike for your environment... 200 smoker; what's that thing like 40 HP?

Took a leisurely cruise around south island. Some nice scenery out there. Here's a few pics from the Kahuku section of Volcanoes National Park. Nice hiking trails and great place for a picnic.

Hey Thumper, what part of the island is that? I'm dying to head east and do some riding with you guys over there. Turns out, this running a business stuff keeps you busy! Speaking of business, we are moving into our new shop this weekend. It's located in Kaloko Palms in the new industrial area near Costco Kona. If you're ever passing through the west side feel free to stop by, cold beers will be in da fridge Once we get settled in, I'd love to host some sort of dual sport gatherings or whatever to have a place for everyone to hang and/or use it as a meeting place before a ride. Sounds close to Kiser, not entirely familiar with the Kona side but know it's a bit of a butt buzz from here for me. Come on over this way, Saturday is a MK200 trail day (I can't help because that's the wife's day) Sunday is a ride day.

Rock Island Riders Benchrace Poem

And there heads were balding fast,
As they sat around the pits BBQing,
Telling big crash stories of the past.

Of a race that they once raced in
And the trails that they had done,
In their exploits with other riders;
They were off road heroes, every one.

And 'tho to the street riders
Their off road tales became a joke,
But their new off road riders listened quietly
For they knew where of the trail cutters spoke.

But we'll hear their tales get longer,

To make the Mauna Kea 200 riders day.

This year the Rock Island Riders will also have a "Tourist Class" ride around the Mauna Kea volcano mountain.

$50.00 entry fee...no trophies awarded...this is just a ride after all contestants have left the starting line for the the second half of the two day Mauna Kea 200 and "KING OF THE MOUNTAIN" Hare & Hound race.

I stopped by Hawaii Adventure Tours in Kona and talked to Jason and he said can rent some motorcycles to ride this Tourist Class...don't miss this cool tourist ride in Hawaii, give Jason a call for details.

Within the next few days the RIR's will have downloadable MK200 entry forms and full information about this world class endurance race at> mk200.com

The Rock Island Riders regretfully announce that the 2013 Mauna Kea 200 event is cancelled.
Things were not coming together as planned to allow us to present an adequate course this year. Details will follow later.

Shootzzzzzzzzzzzz It’s a shock to me also...we got started early in 2012 for the 2013 event, but the labyrinth of progressively higher legal hurtles floating in a stagnated bureaucratic pool of sheeple afraid to BAaaaa! in our favor.

We are now planing out next years legal event to keep the RIR integrity of cutting quality world class trails that test the riders under grueling endurance conditions, this being the tradition of the MK200, Big Island of Hawaii’s premier world class off road race that needs half of the Big Island to do it “world Class” right.

Meanwhile back at the Big Island Dual Sport Associations (BIDSA) illustrious Hilo Headquarters parking lot, talk is, we may host a two day "Tuff Enuff Lava Butt 400” with challenging loops..riders have to have a bullet proofed street legal dual-sport bike for this epic ride.

I don't have all of the details, something along the lines that one entity authorized trail cutting in sections of the forest (well, read Timber Management Area that we all know is imported trees and not Native Forest) and another higher up the chain said no after it got started. RIR asked for clarification, none came, given the amount of trails needed they realized it was a Bridge too Far given the time remaining so they elected to pull the plug.

Bit of a bummer, I know of three mainland participants that were ready to come as well as the Kauai, Maui, and Oahu crews. Oh Well, in the end it's only going to look bad on DLNR, last time this happened the Mayor even said WTF??? since hotels, rental vehicles, airfare, plate lunches, gasoline, tires, and more importantly BEER won't be sold in the same quantities as when the show is in town. Not to mention Motorcycle Rentals such as Hawaii Adventure Tours and the new Maui Outfit (Moto Maui?) were both willing to rent bikes for the event.
