From Lia Sanz Facebook post...
ufffff!!! Estoy muerta.
>> translated to English via Google >> Quote:

good day for Yamaha,
Verhoeven, from 13th to 8th overall Pain, from 9th to 7th overall “Right from the beginning it was very difficult today,” commented Frans Verhoeven. “There were waterholes, broken edges, it was a real mess. It was difficult to ride but also difficult to navigate. At one point I thought I was on the right track, but soon I found out it was completely wrong. Overall some very tricky circumstances! I rode with Alain Duclos along the way; together we tried to find a waypoint at kilometer 47. It was well really hidden, I’m sure a lot of riders went in the wrong direction there. There were ten guys in front of me and I saw ten tracks going different ways. I moved on by myself and entered the riverbeds. We had rain on the way to the special and the special itself was wet as well. There was a lot of mud and water in normally dry riverbeds. The water had broken the edges, which made it even more difficult. The Dakar is not over yet. It began with some hard stages and it will be difficult until the end. I’ll try to make the best of it.” |

Jaime Felipe Prohens, motorcycle riders Tamarugal XC Team Honda Racing,
The copiapinos arrived at positions 39 º and 97 º of the stage and were overall in 25 and 51 respectively. "It was a very quick and dangerous stage. The truth is that it was to kill anyone, heat and general conditions were harsh. We also had major problems from the start by finding the first checkpoint. Fiambalá has been the most difficult stage of the Dakar, "said Felipe, the first of the brothers to cross the finish. Jaime, defined the special as "a living hell, the day that has been worse and harder to run this Dakar. Just had to go out and fulfill it and watching to not make mistakes, "said the eldest of the pair. |

No, but I am mad as hell with the 3 plus hour penalty they gave Kurt Caselli for something that gave him no advantage whatsoever...... Same as with Robbie Gordon last year.....

You can't compare Baja and Dakar. Oh and BTW, Chuck Sterns never won in Baja nor has Kurt for that matter. Chuck still remains the top American Dakar rider with six stage wins in 1985.

Who was it that asked how their gear looked so clean at the start of each stage?
