Can I travel with a spare tire from the Chile => Argentenian side?

I've heard rumors that you CANNOT travel with a spare tire from the Chile side to the Argentenian side. Anyone know if this is true or just a rumor? If this is true; it will greatly complicate my ability to squeeze the last life out of my existing tire before swapping tires (about 1000-1500km left on old tire).

PS: Posted this as a comment to another thread; but I think this warrants its own thread as I've heard it from different people and it significantly complicates trip logistics for fellow travelers.

I hopped back and forth from Chile to Argentina what seems like 10,000 times with a spare rear on the back every time. No questions asked, but that was a couple years ago so YMMV. You won't know till you try it. Worst case scenario if they won't let you bring it, just change your tire right then and there at the border post.

As long as you are not thinking on more than one tire for each wheel, you shouldn't have any problem on taking them with you through the border. Argentinian officials are basically searching for smugglers among them so being foreigner, there is no big deal.

Just in case, to be assured, don't bring your new tires with the stickers nor original wrapping and put some dirt on them so doesn't look brand news.

I live in Punta Arenas and know every single Argentinian biker came here to buy spares, electronics and stuff like that.

I carried a front and rear spare. Never an issue for me.
