![]() Approached to help out at the pitstop of a team in the Junior. No worries! Given the job of opening and closing fuel cap, and attending to the rider's needs while the fuel goes in, such as visor clean/ repacement, glove swap, water intake etc.. The fuel is replenished with a rather rudimentary gun, with gravity being the only assist. Takes a whille, and as with all these fuel guns, they tend to dribble a bit when finished. The key is to be patient and concentrated on getting the job done smoothly and positively, rather than in a panic, and plashing fuel all over your riders gonads. That wouldn't be good...oh no. Not much room in that little cubicle for 3 blokes, tools and tyres. And you have to stay there till the bike comes to a halt. All very high tech... ![]() ![]() Our boy. 'I just want to finish!" Fair enough. ![]() Not sure I'd be putting that on my fairing... ![]() ![]() ![]() The crew ![]() Nerves? Whoa yeah!!! ![]() ![]() A tap on the shoulder...and you're ON.

![]() So this is how it works... Old mate on the ground, with the binoculars looking up the track, calls out the numbers of the approaching riders to the kids above, who rip off the previous lap number. Meanwhile, the kids behind and above the board, who have comms, paint the individuals lap times on a board, and pass them thru slots to the kids in front who post them up. The kids behind also reach over and move the individual riders' 'clocks', to their position on track; Glen Helen, Ramsey, Bungalow. ![]() Meanwhile...the young lady continues to calmly, deliberately and carefully..painting the timing info on the main players board.. ![]() At the same time as this almost ritualistic activity is playing out, there are race motorcycles passing within a couple of metres at 150mph+ ! Talk about contrasts! This really is something you have to see to believe...(And don't forget, there could be 100 riders on track. ..!!)![]() So what this is telling us, is that our rider is running late. Not good. (#83) He's on his last lap, of 4, but the clock is ticking by, and he hasn't got past Bungalow. So he's on the Mountain somewhere. FAST. Not good.

So then we see the 'Man With The Clipboard' approaching. Not good at all....
"Your rider has crashed at Bungalow. He's up and about, and appears to be OK..." ![]() Now there's just the small problem of retieving rider and bike. Not so easy, especially when they are all booked on this evenings ferry back to the mainland... ![]() In the end, not so bad. A bit of skin missing, a bit beaten up, but generally OK. Just overcooked it enough at Bungalow to run off, and take the wrong option for recovering. Pissed off not to finish, but did get 100+mph lap, and in the end 'get away with it'. Just. And made the ferry home.. I knew it wasn't a good omen.
