Hi,

Got a 2009 KTM690ER but have more or less all parts for SMC (wheels, forks, shock, brakes). Planning to also have 19/17 DS setup and use SMC 17x5"rear wheel.

Front, I've got a SMC hub from a damaged wheel and found the below 19" rim on internet. It's a MX rear wheel and I think 2.5" wide. Will this fit? How about spokes?

Does it soud like a good plan? Planned to use ER forks but can use SMC forks if a clash issue.

The rear wheel will work great with the front 19'', normally we run a 4.25 x 17 so you can use the 150/70-17 and have much better tire choices for.

We can modify the rim to work with the front hub, it looks like a 2.15 not a 2.5 which would be best with the 110/80-19 tires. It would be 235 to lace your hub/rim with new stainless steel spokes/nipples.

Thanks. OE for SMC is 160 so 150 should be OK? Also new KTM 1190 Adventure is 17" 170 rear so hopefully that size will be available from more manufacturers, believe conti trail attack from factory.

Thanks for offer, bit inconveneint (cost) with shipping from europe back and forth and added tax (unless sent as warranty :) ) but might do it no one around here can do it.

Yea we do have to custom drill the rims to make it work.

The other option is shipping a rim and spoke kit to you to lace it up.

The best option would be the 2.5 x 19 with a 110/80-19 front, maybe you can sell the 2.15 x 19 or save for your dirt bike.

The 150 will be ok, but the 160 is better.

PS from Woody: picking rim/tire combos is often a rider preference,,,folks liking to drift/spin the tires prefer smaller/narrower combos...things to consider:
bigger tires although theoretically having more grip area are also heavier, thus contributing to increased un-sprung weight as well as rotational mass...so a smaller bike ie with less HP will actually suffer more from the change....

usually there are trade-offs ranging from performance to the aesthetic....BWOE i just looked at this stunning Norton Commando cafe racer in the shop,with it's matching 2.15x19 front and rear rims sporting identical 4.10x19 tires...the rear just looks like it is way to skinny for the job,,not to mention few performance tires are available for it....so in this lucky case switching to a 120/90x18 would be a practical improvement ie tire availability,,,an aesthetic improvement ie ie better proportion and a technical improvement
at the expense of not being OEM.

Actually haven't bought the rim yet and the seller said it was 2.5" so maybe I won't buy it then.

If I send you the hub, how much for rim+lacing. If you can use the nipples from the damaged wheel, I've got those. Maybe several options for rim (orange?)?

OK. Not many 160 dual sport tyres that i can find. ContitrailAttack and Anakee 3 have 170, that should be fine I guess (know some actually prefer 180 for track).

Woody, man how handy!!! I am considering getting a second rear rim for my 690 Enduro R. One will stay setup for road use and the other with the knobbies for the off-road stuff. I am looking at the Excel rim with Rad hub for the off-road stuff and keep the stock for the road. There are 2 widths on the KTMTwins site, 2.50 (stronger) and 2.15 (strongest with more tire choices) What do you recommend?? What are the considerations?? Thanks

I have been through several threads including this one. I must be going in a little different direction with my 990 Adventure. I am fine with the 18/21 combo. But I would like to go tubeless. Can you recommend anything short of changing wheels? Tubliss???

since those ar the two options you give me..id recommend the wider rim for road use and the 2.5 for off road,,,

however,,if it were my bike,,i'd leave the stocker's alone for off road and build a 19/17 setup with tubeless setup...this set up will rock your world on anything the slab can dish out to you...an amazing transformation...better than sex from what i've been told

forget the tubliss for on road application besides none of their sizes are compatible with your rim sizes...

somewhere in this forum i described how to seal your rims...that's one option...
or,,,
you can send your rear wheel in and we'll seal it for you for $99 with one year warranty....OBTW,,,we won't seal your front because it doesn't sport a safety bead

FYI,,we highly recommend Superlacing the rear because that set-up provides the highest gauranty you won't ever be mucking with truing your wheel again...if not that then minimally re torqing/truing your wheel is a good investment...ie to keep from having to turn the nipples and possibly ruining the sealing job.

Love it so much, in fact, that I've worn the wheel bearings out What size are they (rears, at least)?

NB: This is the Capo / RAD-hub version, not the stock KTM hub (or I'd know what size they were! )

The bearings in the hubs they use on the rad hubs are as follows

Hub disc side-6205 2RS
Hub drive side 60/28-2RS x 2
Carrier- 60/282RS x 2
