Navigator IV vs SP 2720

Okay, we're staring winter in the face, holiday gifts are on deck (including gifts to oneself...), and it's easy to get bored. There are Nav IV's and Garmin Zumo 600s and 660s out there to be had at reasonable prices.

My 2720 works fine. Boots up quicker than the 550, seems to freeze up less, and the various windows are more customizable. The Nav IV is thinner and lighter, can be used on battery, and is at least reportedly newer tech.

Has anyone made the swap between these two who wants to opine here, to either help me spend or keep me from spending money?

I think more people went 660 than Nav IV, so you're not getting a lot of response.

As the owner of a 2720 still in use in my Jeep, I can tell you that the units with the newer chip set latch onto satellites a whole lost faster and seem to be able to keep the connection even when indoors - not all the time, but a lot of the time.

I don't have a 66X but I have Montana and Zumo 350LM (350LM not recommended if you need tracks or like to configure the screen!) and they have screens that are definitely superior to the old 2720.

I would be surprised if the 660 had more to offer than the Montana, but that is only a guess on my part. I wish someone who has one would stop in.

Yeah, I didn't really want to start a separate 660 vs 2720 thread.

My experience with the Zumo 550 was pretty unimpressive. I felt it was much slower to boot up, no faster to lock onto the satellites, and way more prone to lock up. I also really liked the ability to customize the data in the small side windows.

But, the 2720 still works, so I reckon I'll keep my wallet shut in the absence of more data.
