We're leaving next Friday on two KLR's....at this point we're not exactly sure how we're going to carry the extra gas. Thinking of either buying a gas can in Lab City and then leaving it at Port Hope Simpson or just using a non DOT sanctioned container (windshield washer jug )

I did a 300 km loop to break in the new Kenda's and I hit 413 km's on my tank before fill up....19.95 L.
This was at decent highway speeds....110 km/hour.

The Happy Valley Goosebay to Port Hope Simpson section is 409 kms....so it will be close.
The only mods I have are a UNI filter and no snorkel.
(BTW, my gas mileage seems to have improved with the UNI??)

Three of the KLRs on my trip did not even hit reserve from PHS to Goose, we averaged around 65ms per hour on that stretch of road. That being said, a friend just completed the TLH and he ran out of gas on his '08 KLR at 324 kms but his average speed was closer to 90kms per hour. So depending on your style of riding will depict the distance.

I just got home from the TLH tonight. You can "most likely" make it without extra fuel on the KLR's if you don't ride too agressively. I was going to fab something, but went low tech instead and bought a 5 litre gas can in St. Barbe and held it against my top bag with a bungy net. I didn't need it myself but topped off my friend when he ran low. I did use reserve to reach HVGB but we were running pretty hard.

The UNI is an aftermarket air filter....I've had really good luck with them and I think it gives a slight boost in fuel economy...

The snorkel is just a plastic piece located at the intake to the air box...supposed to stop junk from coming in.
When you remove it, the intake noise goes up a bit but both items let the bike "breath" better.
The snorkel is easy to remove and put back...
